Countertop with a thick walnut veneer, a durable natural material that can be sanded and surface treated when required.

Layer construction adds stability and makes the countertop less sensitive to humidity, thus, less likely to bend, split or crack than solid wood.

For quick installation and easy maintenance the countertop is pre-treated with hard wax oil.

The countertop has a fine line design that gives it a timeless look inspired by sleek modern flooring.

  • Walnut is a straight-grained hardwood with good stability and strength properties. It gets lighter as it ages – from the dark brown to a rich honey color that appears through the grain.

Not suitable for use in damp rooms.

Please note that the actual colors of our products may vary slightly from the colors shown online.

Every worktop is unique, with varying grain pattern and natural color shifts that are part of the charm of wood.

To ensure that your countertop ages gracefully, treat it regularly with STOCKARYD wood treatment oil; it gives the surface a beautiful sheen, protects the wood and prolongs the life of the countertop.

The worktop surface is pre-treated at the factory with hard wax oil. Due to the nature of the material, treat the edges and cut-outs with STOCKARYD wood treatment oil, prior to installation.

Perfect!DebraWe used this for the top of our stairs dividing the gameroom/craftroom over looking the staircase. It is beautiful! Easy maintenance and great durability. We also used it in our pantry to put our coffee pot, Ninja toaster and Ninja blender on. Everything wipes up easily and the wood looks amazing in there.5
Looks greatTARALooks great5
Not shinystephenLovely looking but needs oiled,we did not realise this.Does not absorb oil very well. Remains to be seen if worktop is hardwearing. We probably would have preferred a laminate type countertop. We paired it with white gloss doors and it looks amazing.3
Simple solutionJenniferI used this table top to build a table and shelf in my laundry room. It worked really well, and it looks great.5
The ash color is still a yellow pineKim E.I for the ash (light wood) color thinking it would have gray tones as the color name suggests, but upon pickup the wood is a light yellow like pine. It feels pretty rough compared to a Karlby top I have for my desk. It feels like unfinished wood. The edging strips are even rougher like they really need to be sanded down.3
Makes a great desktop!David H.I chose the Walnut Pinnarp rather than the over-promoted Karlby countertop for my office desk setup. So glad I did. Love the unique look, and along with two Alex desk drawers, this combo is proving durable, highly functional, and beautiful. I did add one leg to the center-back of the Pinnarp to ensure there was no warpage. All good so far. Great office setup!5
Good productPATGood product5
CountertopChristopherLooks great and if you do have and accident on it or a pen mark you can sand it down to get the mark out.5
Great counters!Kelly J.I was hesitant to purchase these because they are veneer. They are great. No one can tell. Looks really nice. Definitely solid.5
Countertop for a deskTIMOTHYUsed the countertop for a desk and it looks great and very good quality.5
Amazing weight and solid feelMayeloUsed for desk and added adils legs and drawer for side support, plenty of room for everything and i have two monitors and a desk top5
Nice top - ugly bottomJchattInspired by the image gallery we decided to build a small kitchen island with the pinnarp. It’s a nice, light tone wood laminate. Has a similar look to bamboo. What we didn’t know until we got home to start the project was the bottom of this countertop is a brown paper layer. So if you’re doing an island with Gloss White panels, the brown is really noticeable. So much that we decided to paint the paper white. The adhesive backed laminate bands that are included are very brittle. The directions say to sand the overlap down to the countertop edge. Takes forever to do clean. Anything more aggressive than 100grit will chip the edge. I was hoping the laminate would be a bit thicker. Looks about 1/16” thick. 98% particle board. It gummed my dewalt blade after 2 angled cuts. Keep an extra blade on hand just in case.3
So pretty!!heatherjolieWe used this to top base cabinets for built ins. It is such a beautiful counter top!! Looks very high end! Very pleased!5
Looks good but I don’t like that it is a laminateGullepluttI really wanted this color and look but in solid wood. Not a laminate with particle board in the center.3

Better countertops with fewer trees

At IKEA we have a tradition of trying to utilize materials in the best possible way. For our countertops in thick veneer it means that we combine old craftsmanship with modern manufacturing methods. It makes the countertops easier to install, more stable and more resistant to humidity compared to solid countertops. And since we use the whole tree – even the crooked branches and the small twigs – we can save natural resources too.

Better worktops by using wood smartly

Wood is a precious natural resource. Even though it’s a renewable material it needs to be handled responsibly. One way to do it, is to use the wood more efficiently. That’s what we do with our kitchen worktops in thick wood veneer.

“At IKEA we have a tradition of trying to utilize the materials we have in the best possible way,” says Johnny Rietz, who’s been involved in developing the kitchen worktops in thick veneer. The work started in 2008 when IKEA founder, Ingvar Kamprad, visited one of our suppliers and asked a simple question that took some time to answer: ‘How can we make this product using fewer trees?’

Less is more

“After some trials and errors, we came up with the solution. A core of particleboard and a layer of solid wood on the outside – or thick veneer,” says Johnny. “It’s a combination of traditional craftsmanship and modern manufacturing methods. Paper-thin veneer has been used in fine, decorative furniture making for centuries, but for our worktops we’re using a much thicker layer of wood.” The thick veneer makes the surface hardwearing, and it saves raw material – a lot of it. From the same amount of wood needed to make one solid worktop, it’s possible to produce five thick veneer worktops.

No wood is wasted

Another advantage with this production technique is that you can use the whole tree; the stem as surface, and scrap bits – curvy, bent branches and small twigs – for the particleboard on the inside. The end result is a worktop that is every bit as genuine as solid wood, only more stable and more resistant to humidity. “Sometimes a small, harmless question can make a big difference. That’s exactly what happened with our kitchen worktops. It started as a challenge to use resources wiser, and proved to have positive effects not only for the environment, but also the quality. I think it’s great when that happens!” says Johnny.

Material

What is veneer?

A veneer is a thin wooden sheet attached to things like particleboard to add a durable surface and a natural wood look – so we enjoy the many benefits of wood without using solid wood. The most common veneer types are birch, ash, oak, and beech, and we’ve made a special UV lacquer that helps preserve the wood's natural structure. A benefit with a slightly thicker veneer is how you can repair and sand the surface if it’s damaged to give furniture a longer and more beautiful life.
