A Big Ol Lighting Ball of FunGraceIn the superhero movies, there's usually a massive big blob of energy that the heroes need to overcome/save the world from. This Ödleblad is not an evil blob, but you'll feel like a hero when you're done putting this together. Not for the puzzle-assembling averse, this is Challenge Mode IKEA (TM), gaining dopamine each time you successfully insert the little pieces together. The birch-ish material gives it a super cool look, but if you miss the mark when assembling it, the pieces can splinter at the ends. A challenge to this design is the moment when you hang the thing. 100% a two person job. The mounting dooddangle is not a setup for success - it bends the cord, which is not great long-term for the cable. (We ended up rigging something out of a wooden candle lid.) Changing the bulb takes some fine motor skills. Highly recommend an Edison bulb, since you see everything inside. A cool statement piece and a tribute to all the labors of love putting together things from IKEA.4

"I wanted to create a decorative pendant lampshade in birch veneer. The result is ÖDLEBLAD, where the parts have the same shape inspired by our classic Allen key. They build clusters in a recurring pattern and form an eye-catching sphere with its 48 cm diameter. I like its assembly – how everything snaps together without fittings – and how the shade changes expression, lights up and lets a soft, subdued glow through when you turn the lamp on. I hope you find a place for it."
