NYHAMNFrame for sleeper sofaArticle Number:804.554.64
Don"t waste your money on this!why do you ask nicknameI bought it last year, but the plastic parts holding the frame right under the mattress and supporting the legs are totally broken. Now, whenever I sit and lie down, the two frames above and below are not fixed to each other and make a crackling noise.1
Worked for awhileAflowersI purchased this in October of 2019. I've enjoyed it. I especially love the yellow color however, in June of 2020 one of the support woods snapped. I haven't been able to get into contact with anyone regarding a replacement as I'm still in the 365 day policy.3
Unfit for everyday useinvalidnameI had already bought two Nyhamn sofas for use in a home office and remote office, where they get light use as a couch to lie down on during the day, and as an extra bed when the bedroom is unavailable. So I thought this would be a good choice for a sofa in front of the TV in the basement media room where my 17-year-old son hangs out. We set up the Nyhamn in late January, 2020. My son tends to sit in the center of the couch (facing the screen), and after two months, the frame had bent and started to crack right there in the center. After a little over four months, it has now cracked all the way through and needs to be replaced. It is clearly unfit for everyday use as a couch.1
Slats broke immediately when sitting downSarah 2222My husband and I loved this product in the store and I desperately wish it was a more quality product. There are other reviews that describe the slats breaking but because we made a spontaneous purchase in the store, we didn't read them. Regardless, we put the futon together immediately after coming home and the first time my husband sat --- didn't jump, didn't plop, just sat down --- on the futon we heard a crack and one of the slats had broken. I sat down on the other side and some cracking was heard as well. Frustratingly, now we have to figure out how to return the product when it barely fit in the car initially. I tried to call customer service but they were unable to answer my call due to high volume and the phone disconnected without an opportunity to talk to anyone or leave a message. We googled ways to replace the slats and thought about fixing it ourselves but it's not worth the risk of this continuing to happen. So frustrating, why is this product still being made?1
Impossible to sit on as a couch, already breakingkarakovThis sofa is so deep and has such a high back it is very impractical as a couch. It is much more comfortable as a bed than earlier models-especially with a foam topper-so the two stars is for that. I would maybe give it higher marks for it's use as a bed, but after less than a year, the foam is already collapsing and the cover is pilled. It will end up in the landfill like so many other Ikea products. Next time I will just buy some sort of wood or metal futon base with foam that can be replaced.2
Sadly disappointingCoffeebeingsWe owned a fabulous Beddinge (style no longer available) Ikea sofa bed for over a decade and only gave it up because we were moving to the US and selling all our furniture. I was hoping for the same quality with the Nyhamn but even as we were assembling it and I observed the lack of quality (same price range!) in comparison to the Beddinge, I had concerns, but was determined that surely Ikea quality would win in the end. I regret to say that after six months of owning it, it's actually awful! The two most hideous things about it: 1) the cover is cheap, badly woven fabric; it doesn't wash well and doesn't even spot clean-- unlike the Beddinge. 2) The part of the mattress that you sit on in sofa position doesn't sufficiently attach to the frame of the sofa, meaning that every few days you have to reposition the entire mattress entailing the removal of the cover, etc. The Beddinge had heavy fabric loops that attached all along the fold in the mattress, anchoring it securely to the frame, eradicating movement. The Nyhamn had (?) two flimsy straps composed of velcro that were so poorly sewn on that after one pull, fell off immediately! Shocking, Ikea. Really disappointed.1
Perfect Small Apartment Couch/Guest BedMiiMariiI've had this sofa for about 6 months and I still like it! It's lightweight, easy to convert between positions, and has space for two big storage boxes underneath. My favorite part is the asymmetrical fold, so when in the couch position, the seat area is deeper than the back rest leaving plenty of space to put big pillows behind or nap on without unfolding. I bought the grey cover and it's very easy to wash in the machine, but a little bit of a struggle to put on. Taking the cover off is easy. Assembly was easy, I did it alone, but I did have to tighten a couple bolts after two or three months. No arm rests makes this comfortable for long guests when using it as a bed and for laying sideways when in couch position. I love that this is queen sized and not full, so I can give guests a more comfortable sleeping option.5
Poor Quality, Extremely dissapointed.AshKaitPkI bought this under 6 months ago, with a different matress, and it has had three of the wooden support beams on the bottom break, just from sitting down. I am extremely disappointed and aggravated with the quality of this product. There is no reason for this to happen. I have three of the beams duct taped where they have broken hoping that it will hold until I can figure out how to fix the problem. Do not buy this product.1
Comfortable, firm, minimalHIGHLANDPARKPETERWe got this after deciding the BALKARP sleeper was too tiny. This is comparable to a queen-size mattress. The seat kind of droops over the frame and the cover bunches up, but it's comfortable and spacious. We got our particular combination for $199.5
Would give it 5 stars, but have safety concernsshiba_inuI had to sleep on this futon for about a week until my bed frame arrived at my new apartment. I was impressed by the comfort. I enjoy firm support and I found the mattress perfect. I also like the removable cover. Unfortunately, I have some safety concerns with this model. The edge of the futon is not supported by the base. So if you sit on the edge of the futon cross-legged (as I do sometimes while watching TV) or roll to the edge of the cushion while lying down, you could potentially fall off and injure yourself. Apart from the safety aspect, I wonder how the unsupported edge of the cushion will fare over time; I expect it will sag. This is a pretty big design flaw, and despite the comfort and utility I took off 2 stars.3
Made the right chioce!KebinBrought this home two weeks ago to repurpose a small office into office and sleeping spcace. I tried converting it from couch to bed in the show room. Pleasantly surprised how easy it was. Went with the most inexpensive mattress and slip cover options. Very happy how easy assembly was, mattress did not smell like chemicals, adds new life to an underutilized space. Mattress is firm, but I like a lot of support and love sleeping on it! I feel like I got a couch and a full size bed for less than the usual cost for either one --great buy!5
