The mattress protector is machine-washable at 140°F (Hot), a temperature that kills dust mites.

MeltedLaurieI have other IKEA mattress pads and love them. I wanted a thinner pad so I purchased two of these. I gvae them a quick wash before putting on my beds. When I took them out of the dryer (followed instructions), they were crunchy. They melted.1
Melted and Ruined After Following Care InstructionsVanessaI bought this protector 6 months ago (May 2025) and am extremely disappointed. I washed it for only the second or third time and followed the care tag instructions exactly. The tag clearly shows the symbol for "Tumble dry, low heat." Despite this, the protector is completely ruined. The entire inner polyester filling melted, fused, and clumped together into a hard, unusable mess. A product like this should last for years, not 6 months. This is a defective product that cannot withstand the washing process it is rated for. After looking at other reviews, I see I am not the only one this has happened to. Do not waste your money unless you plan to line-dry it every time, which contradicts the product's own instructions.1

Plastic layer melted, besides I worry about the microplastics with wearJulieI didn't look closely enough when I ordered to realize that there was a the cheap polyester sheet on the bottom. I thought the fabric was just a cotton/polyester mix. My immediate thought was that that polyester layer is going to degrade and create microplastics over the bedding (as polyster bags degrade over time and just fall apart). But I thought I'd still just try it out so I cleaned it before use and it melted in the dryer, so I ended up having to throw this away! What a waste of money...I can't even return it because it's been opened and washed.1
Bought in-store - Backing meltsAnonymousI've bought two twin size ones in the past to double layer over my kid's mattress and they performed well. Having got a new mattress, I went to Ikea and purchased three twin-xl ones (two for use and one spare). It did great in the wash but in the dryer on the lowest heat the backing for one of the protectors burned (like how plastic shrivels in heat) and there are holes on it now. In the past I've washed the older twin size ones with other bedding and not on it's own and it did well. I will try the same with the new damaged twin-xl one and If it continues to burn holes while drying, I will just dry the good ones on my drying rack in the future. 2

Might as well throw away your money if you buy thisAnonymous reviewerWhen you buy a mattress protector, it should work. This one does not, it works as well as a sheet. My daughter threw up in her bed. I had to clean her, the bedding and the F’ing mattress as well, what a disaster. I can’t clearly say how utterly disappointed and mad I was. 1
Nightmare!HilalI have had the worst experience with this mattress protector. I got my first one almost 2 years ago and when I put it in the dryer after washing, it literally melted on other bedding and clothes in the dryer. I could not even use it one time, put directly in trash. However, i put blame on myself thinking I was not supposed to put it in the dryer. Last summer I wanted to give this another try, bought one more. Oh god! What a mistake! Even though I triple checked washing and drying instructions, it again melted in low temp. In the dryer. It might seem cheap but since you need to buy again and again in the end you are paying way more than you would for some other high quality brand. Please beware how poor quality this product is.1
