Shelves are spaced for standard European stud spacingBrianThe shelves might be great, but (I wish I thought this through before we bought them) they are spaced to the standard European stud spacing of 60 cm, not the standard American spacing of 16 inches. Yes, surprise surprise, they are a Swedish company. But it is a bit baffling that they didn't adjust the length of the shelves to fit American homes in their American stores. After all, the electronics and lamps they sell in the USA have American plugs and work with 110 volt power.2

Material

What is stainless steel?

Stainless steel is found in everything from building structures and cars to sinks and knives. It’s easy to see why it has so many uses. Stainless steel is hard and durable and has good resistance to corrosion – namely rust. It generally has a low nickel content, and for IKEA products we mainly use stainless steel that’s nickel-free. Like many other metals, it can be recycled again and again to become new, hardwearing items – without losing its valuable properties.
