The KORKEN series is ideal for preserving pickles and jams, serving drinks or keeping cookies crunchy. The airtight seal locks in all the goodness – and write directly on the surface to label the contents.

Perfect for storing pickled vegetables, preserved berries or other tasty things from nature's pantry, as well as dry goods like pasta, granola, tea or yummy biscuits.

The airtight seal helps food retain its flavor and aroma longer.

The jar can also be used as a serving bowl - or as a storage container, helping you keep things organized throughout the home.

You can write on the painted surface and, for example, note the contents and date – or perhaps write a personal greeting if you are giving the jar as a gift.

The painted surface reduces the amount of daylight that enters the jar, so the taste is preserved and the shelf-life is extended.

Write with a non-permanent marker and you can easily remove the text with a damp cloth and write again, over and over.

If you want to sterilize the jar with hot water, preheat the jar first with warm tap water. This prevents the glass from cracking.

FragileKatrinaI was mixing salt into the water in this jar and it shattered from a spoon tapping on the inside (with water! which must have softened the hit, and I was mixing it pretty carefully overall), I did not expect the glass to be so fragile. I feel like they used to make those jars from thicker glass. But the other one I have is still fine just now I know to be super gentle with it.3

Carcinogenic gasketMatthewThe glass jar itself appears to be well made. I originally purchased this to store pickled items in the fridge - until I read the insert in the jar and did some research. 2-mercaptobenzothiazole, found in the gasket, is definitively linked to higher cancer risks by many healthcare organizations. I can't justify using this jar versus a mason jar or something safer. I also find it strange a company like IKEA would sell a product with this insert and advertise it for food storage. Needless to say, I'll be double-checking my IKEA food-related product purchases for now on.2

Not the 'Clean' alternative I was looking forJulieI bought several of these as they are glass to reduce my exposure to toxins. Upon closer inspection of the label I noted these products contain a probable carcinogen, albeit most likely contained to the rubber gasket. I'm not an expert but it seems like a food safe silicone gasket would be a better choice for this product. I will probably return these for something else.3

I purchased this jar and a few other sizes so that I could use this one for home made granola. It looks great on the counter and makes it easy to access my daily scoop of granola. Much better than the zip lock bag I was using.
