Low quality and screws don’t fitNicholasReally flimsy, dented and bent easily in transit. Like others have said the screws that secure the trays in place don’t fit the holes and are easy to strip. 1
Shoe shelfTaraNot my favorite accessory of PAX. Love the system and the ease of putting it all together except this shoe shelf. We thought the 1st piece was defective and went back to exchange it. The exchange was easy and everyone there was very helpful but the new piece does the same thing. We can NOT get the screws to tighten all the way on the upper shelf and therefore it shakes and wobbles. We are going to go to the store to see if they can show us what we are doing wrong. It might be user error, but the screws seem like they just don't fit in the predrilled holes. Love the entire set up otherwise!3
Will be returningMaggieI should have read the reviews!!! Terrible, terrible. Flimsy, doesn't screw in right, looks like bad workmanship. Will be switching these out for something different.1
Huge DisappointmentArmandoThis is the worst product IKEA has ever sold. I am a long-time satisfied customer but this tries my confidence. It is horrible to assemble, but the tiny screws supplied for the shelves are the worst part. They simply didn't fit and cannot thread the unthreaded metal parts they are supposed they are supposed to go into. Returning four of these duds tomorrow. I can't believe anybody wrote a positive review unless they received a different product.1
Needs redesign LawrenceProbably the worst IKEA design. Falls apart after few weeks. Metal bends. Too many points of failure. Screws fail, as they only screw into thin metal plates. Back plate hits wall with loud "clang". Takes up unnecessary vertical space. Very expensive.2
Worst IKEA Product AlexThis product is impossible to assemble . Of all the Pax/Komplement products, this one is awful. Screws do not fit in screw holes and immediate strip, extremely flimsy product. I bought 6 of these and regret it.1
Believe the reviews!!!AnonymousAbsolutely HORRENDOUS installation. How can two heavy pieces of metal be held together by a bunch of tiny screws you can barely get through? I will be looking through these comments for solutions on different screws because I'd rather do that than have to disassemble and return.1
Not up to IKEA standards DanielOf all the PAX products I’ve purchased this is by far the worst. As mentioned in many people’s reviews assembling this product is almost impossible. I had to go out and buy and tap set to re tap all the screw holes. The screws provided are absolutely useless… you cannot turn the screw head without stripping it. 1
Awful ScrewsPatryciaThis is probably the worse product to install I have ever had to deal with from Ikea. The screws are so brittle that the strip immediately and it's impossible to tighten them. Had to purchase a whole set of screws from a hardware store to make this work. However, once installed it does work very well. 3
Horrible Product- IMPOSSIBLE to assemble.JessicaWish I read the reviews.. assembly is horrendous with these little screws. They never are able to be tightened. We switched to a flathead instead of Phillips screwdriver which helped slightly but it’s next to IMPOSSIBLE to assemble properly. It’s unfortunate because these could be very nice racks…1
Shoes slide outMonicaI don’t understand why the bottom level does not have a lip in the back. My shoes just slide right out the back.2
EhPaulIt will be functional, but noisy, since it is all metal. The bottom panel pops up and down when pushed. A few of the screw holes are defective, making it impossible to screw the small screws all the way in. I used a washer on one, and used my own hardware on a couple others to make it work. A pullout tray may be a better option. 3
Screws don't fit and metal shelves are noisyMeganLike many of the reviews state - installation is impossible. The screws do not fit well in over 50% of the holes and the metal shelving is noisy when pulled in and out if every screw isn't perfectly tight (which is impossible because most get stripped while trying to tighten fully). I spent over 45 minutes just trying to install 1 shelf. I'll be uninstalling and returning all the shelves and going with a pull out tray option instead (those appear to be much better quality).1
Screws are impossibleAnonymous reviewerThe super short metal screws simply don't work. They don't screw into the metal holes. I don't know if they're too short or the holes are too small but my shoe shelf won't stay together at all. Worst Ikea product I've ever come across, and there are many. 1
Tap & Die Set neededJamesOnce i ran a tap through all the holes, it was a breeze to finish but if you dont have that you will never get it to work correctly. M4x0.7 tap, go and buy it now and save the headache3
Believe the bad reviews!!Anonymous reviewerThis product is absolute garbage do not waste your time. SCREW DO NOT FIT!!!! We bought 4 of these and the screws dont fit in any of them. I dont even understand why this product is being sold. Absolute garbage design.1
Great functionality. Metal on metal screws terrible. TracyLove the functionality and storage capacity. Following the assembly instructions isn’t too bad especially if you supplement the included instructions with a You Tube video. The metal on metal screws are a toss up, though. Some go in nicely and others strip and don’t go in all the way. Shelf seems to still function nicely despite the less than perfect metal screw situation though. 4
Not a good product AllisonLet me start by saying I am a big fan of IKEA products. I have assembled and installed 2 kitchens and this last project was a closet system. This product is junk. It is flimsy and very difficult to assemble. After reading the reviews I copied one which was a complete description of the problems we had building this shoe shelf.
Most screws strip even when I use a hand screw driver. The 19 inch wide do not hold 2 pairs of shoes on one level. Some of the arms are loose, while others are too tight. We trashed the top of our second self because we basically couldn’t install it with existing screws.2
Shoe Shelf Assembly Tips FeliciaIKEA's Kompliment pull-out shoe shelf is a great addition to my closet! Initially, I struggled with assembly because I used the wrong screwdriver. I assumed the one I use for everything would work, but it wasn’t right for this project. After reading reviews, I realized others had the same issue. Determined to fix it, I took a rail cover and screw to Home Depot, where an associate identified the problem—I needed a #2 screwdriver, not the smaller one I was using. Once I got the right tool, assembly went smoothly. Also, I noticed a bit of extra pressure on the screws was all it took for my challenges in steps 5 and 6. Now, the shelf works perfectly, keeping my shoes organized and accessible. Highly recommend—just make sure you have the right tools!5
Screw threads Strip even with hand tightenHartyoonMost screws strip even when I use a hand screw driver. The 19 inch wide do not hold 2 pairs of shoes on one level. The design is okay, but the lower tray needs a stop at t he back so shoes do not get accidentally pushed back and fall behind the tray. Some of the arms are loose, while others are too tight.3
