Steel colanderStanleyThis colander is super sturdy. You can shake off excess water without colander bending.
Band holds onto small food particles even after washing-health issueFrankWhen you dump content out of the strainer, some food particles get wedged between the mesh and the top metal band. Even with thorough cleaning and banging to unwedge the food, small particles still remain stuck.
Depending on the stuck food, this can create a health hazard. We've stopped using our colander.
Do not buyLisaThis is made of nice materials but the band around the inside that you think is a nice reinforcement gets stuff stuck under it and makes it hard to get it out. That band should be on the outside if anything. We are throwing this out and buying a different one because it’s such a pain

It LASTS!KristineI have a family with various texture issues and food phobias so sometimes I need to blend onions and peppers in order to get them in their food. These are the only strainers I’ve ever bought that last through what I put them through! That metal collar they have keeps the mesh from popping out and they seem to hold their shape really well. I actually bought 2 of them this time as replacements for 2 cheaply made strainers I bought at another store.

Sturdy sieveStephanieThis is more substantial than I thought it would be for the price. It’s nice for rinsing grains and straining homemade stock, as well as a much quicker way to sift flour/powdered sugar than using a dedicated sifter. The mesh is a little bit larger than my other one I own, but it’s still a fine enough mesh to work for my purposes.
