great in a pinch, or long-term use!Lindsay19yo sleeps on it every night. prefers it to a bed! lets him free up space in his room when needed. he's 5'10 and 235lb, so don't be shy if you're big, it holds!5
Great chair bedDebraThis chair bed looks nice and is easy to put together. Used as a bed it is fine with extra cushioning. My adult grandchild likes it when they spend the night. The only problem, and it was almost returned because of this. Is sliding it back together after using as a bed. The first portion of the bed must be lifted, in order for the chair to slide back together. It is not too much trouble, but it is not easy either. I made two trips to the store, one with my handyman to have workers show us how the one in their warehouse slides right back in. Mine does not. Possibly a manufacturing defect. I will not pay the return/pick up fee to return this item. It is nice and we have made it work. Again, it looks really nice. We got the green corduroy, it looks great. 4
Classy Hideaway BedConnieWe just built a 14 x 40 she shed cabin just fir ne. It's also used as a little guest house and with a queen size bed, this is the perfect tv/reading chair and extra pullout for guests! It's very comfortable and the size fits nicely where a full size sofa or love seat would just not go. It is a great addition to my she shed cabin!5
Comfy as a chair for sure!KatieHaven’t needed it pulled out as a bed, it would be a decent place to sleep for sure. As is, it’s a nice comfy chair. I put the kivic ottoman with it and it’s a nice make shift chase. (Didn’t buy the chase bc I already had the ottoman) Kivik everything is solid. 5
You get what you pay forAnonymous reviewerAt first, a little scared to see all the reviews. The box was easy to open, the cover surprisingly easy to put on. The manual needs a little improvement because the drawings are not that clear, but overall, we like it, although it's a bit pricey for the size.4
Disappointed JenniferThe slipcovers were very difficult to get on. Some just wouldn’t cover the entire area. 2
Tearing MayraI got this because of its purpose. However the cover was so hard to put on. I did have a hard time. It’s been used to sleep on less than 5 times. I noticed that the seams of the cover are torn already. So now I’ll have to be another cover and hope it doesn’t tear. They should make the cover with some stretch.1
Very DisappointedMehreenI was very excited to get it, but it was difficult to assemble. Even the professional I hired from TaskRabbit had a difficult time assembling it. The cushion covers are too tight, and because of this, the zippers don't work properly. It is very uncomfortable to sleep on, even with a topper. It is a comfortable lounger, but the cushions have begun to sag. Overall, I am very, very disappointed with it!1
Painful to sleep on. PaolaThis is ok as a sofa and even as a chaise but not to sleep on. I wish I would've trusted the other reviews. I hate it. 2
So-so SleepersofaLindaThere are apparently 2 different versions of this 1-seat sleeper sofa being sold. The Ikea website video showed one type of sleeper sofa where the seatcover is fully detached from the backrest and is easy to assemble. I apparently ended up with the version where the seatcover is completely attached to the section that covers the backrest, making it almost impossible to insert the foam cushions into the cover without having to forcibly stretch the fabric to the max in order to zip it closed and to get the velcro pieces to fasten together as well. In addition, the instructions that were included in the package were for the sofabed version shown in the video. Instead of having to return this heavy item back to Ikea for a refund, I chose to modify the sofabed cover to make it work.2
comfortable, stylish, innovative design that does't look like a sleeperLuciePROs: looks great, clever design, quick + easy to transform into a bed, very comfortable as a chair, good back support, doesn't look like a sleeper, looks very good in a corner, very inviting; guests choose this seating option :)
NEUTRAL: pretty firm bed but not hard as a rock; may or may not need a topper. took 2 hours to assemble. it seemed very expensive for a chair, but it is a) very wide and b) a 2 for 1 since it's also a sleeper and c) a very comfortable as a chair
CONs: very small con for all the pros but since there are actually 2 different foam cushions stacked inside the seat area it sort of shows if you look closely from the front because it's hard to get them into perfect alignment which you can't see in their picture. this would only bother a perfectionist. for all the benefits of the chair, this is not a problem for us. another con is cat likes to scratch it ;)5
Comfortable bed. Great looking chair.YvonneWe bought this for my daughter’s house so that I would have a place to sleep on for a week long visit. After other comments on how difficult the covers are to put on she followed the instructions carefully and had no issues. We have the Valentuna sleeper at our house and guests really liked it. The Kivik was even more comfortable to me as the points where the mattress bends are in better locations. My hip and shoulders had great support. It is also a bit wider. I loved the memory foam. I slept very well during my stay and look forward to my next visit with her. I am 5’7” and 170 lbs.5
Very difficult to get the slip cover onKerryThis fits perfect in our space and looks great. BUT it is very difficult to get the slip cover on and zip up the piece. We are hoping this will get easier over time.4
Fabric Covers Extremely DifficultAnonymous reviewerI have purchased many IKEA products and have never had such a hard time putting on the fabric covers on the cushions and the fabric covering the rest of the chair. I had to use a pliers to stretch the fabric to fit. It was just too small. It literally took me 4 hours of stretching and pulling to get the velcro to attach as well as the zippers shut. The cushion does not fit well on the chair seat either.2
Almost impossible to zip the fabricGongIt was almost impossible to zip the fabric to cover the two cushions. The whole zipping process took over an hour.2
The fabric cover does notRobertThe fabric cover does not fit the unit. Was impossible to get it on without tearing it, and it still looks terrible. The shape of fabric does not line up with the components on the chair. I’m probably returning it if I cannot get a new fabric that fits properly1
Does not connect to other Kivik piecesLindseyThe single seat is truly just that, a single seat. I incorrectly assumed that I would be able to connect this to other pieces in the kivik series, but this piece is not modular. It seems odd to be part of the series but not connect to any other pieces...
I also found zippering the cover in seat mode to be difficult based on the size and location of the zipper.3
