Do NOT buy it for storage! It is unstable and has high risks of fall apart!SamThe designer knows nothing about design. If you would use it as furniture please avoid at all cost, because it is dangerous! All stabilizing points within the main parts are only secured by dowel pins and no extra stabilizations are applied. Most of the amazon furnitures even have screws to provide extra stabilization, but this. We tested the rigidity of dowel pins and it gets damaged easily. If you have basic understanding of physics, you would know how hard wood could support the whole structure compared with metals. When installed,we find the structure is just as we concerned that has no solidity, which might swing when a little pressure is applied. We are scared to use it as storage. For your safety, please do not buy it. Ikea should not allow such defect product in stock and makes me question about their product quality. 1
Beautful Addition to Living RoomRachellI purchased to sit on top of an electric fireplace tv stand with cabinets for additional book and knick-knack display. It fit perfectly and give me an elevated look that goes almost all the way to my ceiling sitting on top of the TV cabinet. It was easy to put together but definitely had to have a friend help me pick it up to move it into place. Very attractive and adds lots of deep storage. 5
Not just a bookcaseMeganLove this shelf unit. We use it to store our ever growing collection of board games. We have added a couple of drawer inserts for smaller games. Looks very neat and organized. 5
Love them!CatherineThese are beautiful assembled and worked out perfectly!5
These are great!MikeI've purchased a couple different configurations of these and they are great. You can customize them for having small drawers, or boxes, or just empty so stack stuff in. I use them for stacks of clothes in the bedroom, and books and knickknacks in the office.5
Hollow Walls are TERRIBLEBenI had one of these from 10 years ago and it was build solid as a brick and HEAVY. This one was cheap and lightweight. The pegs were scary to tap in because I was worried I would snap one no matter how careful i would be (Spoilers: I did because the hole wasn't drilled deep enough and it looked like it needed to go further when it couldn't). Then the final wall went on. There is so much friction against the dozen pegs at once on the 4x4 unit that you have no choice but to tap it hard and push all over the place to get it to settle in place. this cause my to break the hollow cardboard garbage wall in 2 places. That would never have happened with the classic particle board. I'm not impresses with the downgrade in quality.1
Bad qualityLaurenI bought the black color. One of the pieces came partially unfinished.. one side was totally unfinished with the front edge faded in spots like they did one coat and decided that was enough. I had bought the base for the unit to sit on but where I would have to attach the base, the unfinished piece would be showing. Really odd all the way around. It would be too much of a pain to return so I’m setting it on the floor (unfinished side down), ditching the base altogether. 2
Great one ChristianEasy to ensemble and hard material 5
Great shelving!BrianKallax is best for collecting books. If you’re a book collector this what you need. 5
Gaps in the sidesSaraI ordered the 4x4 and had a friend put it together while I was away on vacation. She sent photos of pretty major gaps on both sides of the shelving, exposing the wooden dowels. When I got home I took it apart and found that either the dowels were too long for the holes or the holes were too shallow. Reddit has threads going back years about this issue. I had to cut 20% of the dowel off for the gap to be closed. It's kind of crazy that this issue hasn't been fixed despite years of complaints about it. 3
HORRIBLE QUALITYGiorgioNormally, over time, production processes and quality should only improve, but not for IKEA!!!
I have known and had the Kallax series for at least 10 years, before the quality was more than sufficient, excellent weight, excellent finishing, now the products have been totally lightened, metal parts replaced by plastic, horrible gluing. Unfortunately there are not many alternatives to Ikea around...1
Very versatileBenNice and solid, with plenty of add on options. Serves multiple purposes.5
Easy EnoughKelleyThese shelves went to gether easily, however everything has to be perfect or they don't like up correctly. That's a big ask for someone who puts furniture together once every decade.4
Kallax is my Go-To for Staging & HomeKaranI'm a Realtor who stages my listings and Kallax is the perfect piece for organizing, and the look is simple and sleek. Add baskets or boxes for storage to keep things looking clean.5
Perfect fitPamThe Kallax unit fits perfectly in my sewing room, I store fabric and more in it.5

The paint quality of high gloss version is super low.Anonymous reviewerMulti area do not have paint at all. I can do nothing but return. Etc, if you live far from Ikea, returning them will cost you time and money, which so bad and sad!
So if you want to save time, avoid the high gloss version.1
