Holds the MultiverseAlexisThe storage unit is uncanny and amazing! I bought it to store my comic omnibus and collected editions and more. Between DC, Marvel, Image, Dark Horse, etc., this thing holds worlds upon worlds between them. The unit is strong and sturdy. Some of these omnibus books are quite heavy and this unit appears to have not issues holding them. The look and feel exudes confidence and well-built quality. You've got a fine product here!5
Attractive, artistic, sturdy, and practicalJulianaThis is the third 4x4 Kallax unit I’ve purchased. I purchased the first units 10 years ago to store and organize my heavy paper-based work materials. I bought a second one to store off-season clothes and exercise equipment. I had no problem assembling the Kallax units, and they have held up perfectly despite being heavily loaded. They discontinued the birch veneer (Ugh!), so, I purchased the 3rd unit in an oak veneer about 5 years ago. It has a darker matte finish with a slightly raised wood grain. It’s not as attractive as the lighter colored birch veneer with its sleek, smooth finish and subtle shimmer. However, the 3rd unit is also extremely sturdy, and has held up perfectly. We don’t have issues of it tipping over, but do get and install the wall anchors if you have kids or younger visitors just to be safe. Visitors comment, “This is really nice!!” I highly recommend this product, I plan on purchasing it again in the future, and I’m hoping that the birch veneer returns!5
WobblyMelI can agree with the other reviews that they look nice! But extremely wobbly they are not the same as the older version. They feel lighter and even cheaper than before. Be careful when hammering I dented a few spots due to the poor quality. But overall a little disappointed on how they made the materials. 2
Best storageAngelaReally spacious and good looking storage that is light and not expensive!5
Great one ChristianEasy to ensemble and hard material 5
Gaps in the sidesSaraI ordered the 4x4 and had a friend put it together while I was away on vacation. She sent photos of pretty major gaps on both sides of the shelving, exposing the wooden dowels. When I got home I took it apart and found that either the dowels were too long for the holes or the holes were too shallow. Reddit has threads going back years about this issue. I had to cut 20% of the dowel off for the gap to be closed. It's kind of crazy that this issue hasn't been fixed despite years of complaints about it. 3
Awesome bookshelf! DevinI really love this bookshelf and it's a staple piece of my living room!5
Excellent BookshelvesTedThe best and sturdiest bookshelves!5
Fits in closet perfectly!ArleenThe Kallax bookshelf fits perfectly in my guest closet to store all of my craft supplies.5
Wonderful Bookcase and SystemBillI bought this and other Kallax bookcases to store many large and heavy art & design books. Everything has worked perfectly. The bookcases are easy to assemble and more than strong enough to handle the heaviest books.5
Terrible assembly designAimeeI have an older version of the Kallax that I bought used, and have no problems with. I bought a new one to match and I can't even get it put together properly. The dowels to join the shelves together do not fit, and when I hammered them in several of them splintered and came apart. Two even snapped off in the holes so I can't get them out to replace them. Other shelves gap instead of fitting together flush. Two of the long screws that are supposed to join the external planks together stripped the holes they are meant to screw into. When I tried to pick it up and turn it for better access several of the shelves came apart. I was able to shove most of them back together but one is off kilter in such a way that I would need to take apart the entire thing to get the dowels in the right spot again.I now need to go buy larger screws to try and salvage the holes that are stripped. Based on how easily pieces of this have broken and come apart I don't expect it to be as durable as the original.2
Good quality, great functionality JohnBeing a board game player/collector, these kallax shelving units are great to store your games. The unit is fairly easy to built and the quality is good. 5
Little bit of this a little bit of that....SharleenWe also got the doors and drawers for this for the little one to put his toys...love it!!! Thankful for the options! :) 5
Nice large shelfKenNice large shelf4
Questionable QualityMelissaBought these to match one that I’ve had for 5 years. The quality has obviously lessened in the last few years, as these newer ones are more prone to cracking and flaking. Be very careful putting them together. Use soap to help the dowels go in - 80% of the holes were just enough too small that I needed a mallet to put the piece on. Not just a little tap with a hammer. And use a block of wood between the hammer and the shelf. Make the holes a tiny bit bigger!4
It's a great bookshelf! I'veRafaelIt's a great bookshelf! I've added some LED lights in the back to add a nice effect on the books and objects that I put on the bookshelf.5
Perfect for homeschool organizationDionaShelves are great depth for various sized book and hold a lot in each cube. It was a bit wobbly putting together and would recommend two people, but I put it together perfectly on my own.5
