Use a skinny flathead screwdriver to remove the shelves.BetsyI bought a set of IVAR shelves last month with some apprehension. I thought the shelves would be too hard to rearrange once set after reading many of these reviews. However, it's really not that hard it turns out--you just use the same flathead screwdriver that you would use to remove the pegs from their storage spot in the shelf's bracket when you first bring it home to pry the pegs out of the bracket ends to release the shelf. Then you can move the shelf to a different set of holes, easy-peasy! No brute strength or risk of damage/separation of the brackets from the shelves to speak of. As for the shelves themselves, it was more difficult than I would have liked to find shelves that were not too knotty as to be, in my opinion, unsightly, but at $5 and $10 per shelf, that's okay! Will stain them later so it's less noticeable. IVAR hooks and accessories can still sometimes be found on ebay. Ikea, bring back the IVAR clothing rod you used to sell, please!

Best stuff everBryanWe love ivar. We have multiple sets all together in our basement, bedrooms and laundry room. All of the different style shelves work well and it is so versatile. I hope they never stop making it and that they bring back the corner shelves.
Metal fittings warpedVickyI bought an additional shelf for my system. The one I received has warped metal fitting so that it doesn't clip onto the metal peg. So this shelf doesn't shelf
I wasted $1,000+VerityApproximately three years ago, I bought about 100 shelves and the uprights to go with them. These shelves have metal ends, unlike the ones from the 90s. I didn't like that they were hard to push onto the pegs, unlike the earlier version, but I figured I could live with it.
Then I tried to rearrange them. Every single shelf left its ends on the pegs- every single one. I had to hammer on the metal pieces to get them off of the pegs. It had been more than a year, the return window had closed and I had to make them work so I pushed the ends into the holes in the wood and, with difficultyinstalled them. But because I rearrange often the holes have become enlarged and the metal won’t stay attached to the wood at all, they provide no support to the shelf. I now have about 15 shelves that are just pieces of wood, not shelves and I know it will eventually happen to every other one.
I have never been as unhappy with a product as I am with these.
Old Ivar was great!CliffWe loved the old IVAR system, it was so versatile and easy to adapt to our needs, and we love the unfinished natural wood. Don't like the new system at all! The combinations don't really work for us, and the metal shelves look and feel so cheap. They took away everything we loved about the old system, the versatility, quality look and function, and they replaced it with a cheap looking knockoff. My star rating is based on the old, beautiful wood system, not the horrible metal they replaced it with.
Best little shelves StewartI love these shelves, they snap into place easily and they feel sturdy! I have 9 ivar systems with these shelves, of all configurations (wide, narrow, deep, and shallow). Be careful when you pry out the little metal pegs, you can accidentally detach the metal rail from the shelf and it’s hard to put back; there aren’t any screws, it’s kind of like a staple and you have to use something sharp and pointy to make it go back - and a little bit of wood glue helps.
Ivar is a staple ChareeI love the versatility of the Ivar systems. I have several sets that are in constant use in main areas of my house. With it being unfinished wood, we can stain it to our liking and make it suit our needs.

Always useful ChareeI have several Ivars set up in my home for various shelving reasons. It is a staple for my home.
Stickers show Ikea might actually believe its customers should suffer!Anonymous reviewerAs others have said, there are two stickers on the shelves. One, I think by the manufacturer, peels off easily. The other, Ikea's bar code, is impossible to remove without damaging the shelf wood. So here was my routine--scrape off the sticker with a tool that removes the paper and leaves the glue, digging into the wood. Break out the power sander, sanding each shelf for several minutes, (relatively quickly clogging the sand paper with the incredibly adhesive glue). And even then the stain will leave a sticker shaped blank spot!
Why does Ikea do this? Because I suspect a principle of this retail chain is to make everything difficult for customers, on the marketing belief that because they have to do inordinate amount of work for cheap furniture, customers will value it more.
Maybe, but in this case, the labor involved over a really trivial thing, easily remedied by a firm if they cared, means that I will from now on I will only shop Ikea for products like Lingonberry Jam!
Not the same! NylaI have ivar everywhere! Hobby room, sewing room, garage, and office! These shelves are not as good as the former shelves since the metal bracket comes apart when disassembling, which requires purchasing more shelves! Nice marketing move!
Brackets are trashChrisBrackets fall off less the 8 months of use. Try to put them back on and they just keep falling off. Spoke to IKEA support and there is no warranty after 6 months. This is obviously a quality issue if I have 6 shelf's that are doing the same thing. Well, wasted $90 and have just a piece of wood. Do not recommend.
