Designed for assembly by a creative DIYer, but a rookie will still survive.KahrenIf you are not a DIYer, do NOT assemble this alone. You will need a level, a hammer, a screwdriver with both a philipps and flat head, and DEFINITELY get someone to help you. You will DEFINITELY need to attach the crossbar as the shelves are COMPLETELY unstable without it. The directions are vague. I went on youtube and found an Ikea video on detail missing from the directions. There are no directions for attaching the crossbar. You will need to drill/make your own holes for the crossbar. That can easily be done without a drill. I had to google how to attach the crossbar. The directions say to pound the small pegs until flush with the frame. For the life of me, I couldn't get them flush. About 1/2 - 1/4 of the peg sticks out, but it's not noticeable. I didn't want to pound any harder out of concern I'd split the wood. NOTE: Assemble the frame first, one or two shelves, THEN the crossbar, THEN the remaining shelves. This will spare you frustration. In the end I like the shelves5
