It can hold anything, including acidic foods like tomato sauces. The matching cover is a perfect match and has a thick silicone seal that can be removed easily so it can be washed and dried. I’d do it againSharonThe very attractive wood lid has a tight seal. I removed the gasket and now use the wood lid with the base only when I serve snack foods. I use the original style lid for sealing for storage.5
