Replaces a Brand-Name $150 Skillet -- Quite WellJimWe bought a $150 skillet from a famous snooty brand this past winter. It rusted within two uses, even following manufacturer's care directions. It comprises mostly of silica and is created by applying a gel-like solution to the product and drying it in an oven. The result is a hard, glossy surface with non-stick properties. Sol-gel can be produced in different colors, it withstands high heat, is easy to use and clean – and allows cooking with little or no fat.
