Not durable TaraWe have had the sofa less than 2 years and the corner of the trundle broke. It was two pieces of particle board held together with staples. It seemed designed to fail. The trundle no longer lays level and has a low spot where it failed - where the trundle meets the chaise. IKEA, of course, does not sell a replacement. The sofa overall has been a big disappointment unfortunately.1
Amazing couch, not amazing to buildRyleyWe love this couch! It is so comfy, beautiful, and great for the price. However, if you are willing to pay for the assembly, I highly recommend it. It is not easy to assemble, and the instructions are not very clear. Also, make sure you put the covers on FIRST! Overall, love the couch and very happy with our purchase. 4
Still going strong!Anonymous reviewerBought this sofa in the USA in 2016. I love Ikea furniture for its versatility & multi-functionality—and the Holmsund is just that. It has been used as a primary sofa in smaller apartments & then as a secondary in a much larger houses—it has been assembled/disassembled/reassembled multiple times over the course of several moves both local & abroad.
Storage space under the chaise is great. The ease of rolling out & popping up the full bed is great. The ability to configure the chaise on either the right or left side is great. Other reviewers have said the cushions weren’t comfortable or deteriorated quickly—I have not found this to be true (maybe they are much heavier than me & are compressing the foam more? Lol). I will say when it’s in bed mode for guests for more than a night or two, I use a memory foam mattress topper to minimize the seams between the 3 major cushions.
Overall, a great purchase!4
It's fine but not greatAnonymous reviewerI have owned this for almost 6 years.....
The good: it's nice looking overall and fairly comfortable as a couch. The covers are washable. I've taken it apart and put it back together at least 6 times and it is still holding up. It's cool that you can put it with the lounge section on the right or left. For me it was a good value because it was in the floor model/discount section/returns area of my store......
The bad: I've taken it apart so many times because you HAVE to for the checks to be washed. Kind of a pain. The back of the couch is also not that high, so it doesn't work well for sitting up straighter. The bed part that rolls out becomes easily disconnected at the bottom, so then the "bed" is kind of split down the middle. Even when it's intact, it's only ok to sleep on. Better than one of those cheap thin fold out couches where you can feel the bars... But not much better.
For the price I paid, I feel good about it, but I would probably not buy it again.3

3 Years - would NOT purchase againJonI am writing this review after 3 years of ownership. Single, male in 30s with the occasional friend coming to visit, hence the need for a sofa sleeper.
Most of this is negative. First off, I do not think this couch is worth the price. The cushions for this couch feel very cheap and stiff and with little use, they become broken down quickly. The upholstery looks nice, but it is rough and not easily removed from the couch and is advertised as washable, but to wash the upholstery you must take apart the entire couch. The pillows are garbage, they are not comfortable to use, opposite of plush.
That being said, I put the couch together quickly and found it easy to do. The sleeper sofa portion is easy pull out from underneath But it can come off the hooks occasionally. The storage, although spacious, does have an odd odor and everything I store in there has it too. Also, it’s very difficult to “Make a bed” Because you can’t tuck the sheets and bedding into the couch.2
Broken from day 1KarenInstallers never put on half the feet, pull out section never worked it was broken. Would have taken back ,but no way to do so. So we live with it, way to much money to pay for a sofa sleeper that you can’t use it full functions. Extremely hard to remove washable covers so I can’t do it.1
