Warped glassMichaelI read the reviews about warped glass with some doubt, could never imagine this even being possible. Sure enough, the unit I picked up was warped. The second one is also warped, a bit less. However, this was the only unit which perfectly fit into the existing opening, was immediately available in stock on Sunday, and I hope to sell this house in a few months, so I decided to keep it. So, with the front being flat with the counter, the right back corner is flying in the air by about 1/4 in. Will put in some black silicone and survive. However, the fact that after all these reviews and returns Ikea has done nothing and continued selling these propellers is disturbing at best2
First 2 Have had warped TopMatthewWe got this induction top to replace our old coil electric. Love how quick it is. However, the first one was warped; lived with it for 2 months before I was back in Memphis with an Ikea. I live 3 hours away and their delivery options were horrible. Just got the new one installed after swapping the original, just to have the exact same issue of warped glass. I would avoid this until they get their quality issues figured out.
Other than the glass being warped, we generally like the cooktop. The layout isn't ideal having the primary in the middle, but it's serviceable. It does smudge easily as well.
Overall Very frustrated right now and regret purchasing this outside of their footprint as it's a real PITA to get these exchanged. I have no confidence that the next will be any better.2
So far so good. AndyI left a previous review to the effect that my cooktop was warped. I decided to give it one more try and exchanged it again. Third time was the charm. This one was nice and flat, so I thought it fair to leave an updated review.
It installed quickly, and we really like it. So far we are very pleased with it. It cooks faster than we thought, and is quieter than we thought. One person left a review here saying it doesn't simmer, but I just got home from work to find something simmering quite nicely. I gave it four stars for reliability only because I haven't had it long enough to give it five. Hope this helps!5
Glass top is not flat.AndyThe glass top is not flat. It's more like a potato chip. When I placed it in the cutout, I noticed that it was resting primarily on the bottom left and top right corners, with the bottom right and top left corners not touching the countertop. You would have to shim it to prevent it from rocking.
I independently checked the countertop and verified that it was all in a plane. Then I checked the cooktop by itself using two long straightedges, and it became clear that the cooktop was twisted.
I exchanged it for another one, and it was exactly the same, if not slightly worse. I was thinking of using some RTV under the raised corners to stabilize it, but a google search indicated that this is not generally recommended. So I'll likely return the 2nd one as well and pay a bit more for a name brand.1
Easy Install, Great CooktopAustinOnly had it for a day, so take this review with a grain of salt. ~1 hour install including wiring in the new cooktop. Wire and conduit was a little long, but easy to manage. Cooktop works and looks great up to this point.5
