Assembly and quality not idealLennyOverall table looks good but assembly was painful. Lots of holes not calibrated well leading to misaligned drawers. Also, top surface is extremely soft and dents very easily - not sure what to do - ignore it and cover with desk mat or buy wood filer, too complex to replace just the top surface

Hemnes Desk with 2 drawersJoanneI bought the desk with 2 drawers and other corresponding pieces recently. I am disappointed in the quality of the IKEA products. Holes not drilled properly, and paint not covering well showing lots of repaired knots in the wood. The overall quality of this particular line seemed to be suffering. The packaging though was genius!
Not Great But Not AwfulSeanThe assembly of this desk was a bit of a pain. First, one of the hardware bags was missing two pieces, requiring me to order them and wait a week before proceeding. Second, as with any IKEA item I've ever bought that had hinges, the hinge mechanism is terrible (as are the instructions for the hinges). Once assembled, though, the desk is decent. It would have been better if the top were one piece, though. That would provide more space (without a gap) and eliminate the need for the awful hinges.

DisappointedSusanaI bought this desk because I have been shopping at IKEA since the 90s. I would drive from NJ to PA because that was the only ikea in the NE. I just trust them, whenever I need something for my home I know ikea will have exactly what I’m looking for. So this being said, I am so disappointed with this desk.
I built the desk, a bit cumbersome but it worked. However I was so disappointed when I turned the desk and saw that the back of the desk is full of holes and there were no cover for the holes. I cannot believe that IKEA is selling a desk for $270 with holes.
I cannot work facing a wall. I still cannot believe that ikea would design a product with such an ugly appearance and no warning on the box that the desk has to face a wall.
Totally disappointed with Ikea.
