Care

Good computer deskAnonymous reviewerThis is a nice big computer desk with plenty of space for a computer and cables, and some thought given to cable routing. The only thing I don't like is how there's no middle drawer, only a small cable run.
Assembly tip:
Near the end when it asks you to put in twelve cam lock nuts -- delay that until you put the top on the base. This will ensure a poorly positioned nut won't prevent the base and the top from connecting well.
Love my deskJennaBought this in 2023 to go in my new home office. I love the way it looks, and how large the desktop area is. The cable hole / shelf is super useful!
I also don’t remember having a particularly hard time with assembly. I was able to do it on my own (although took a few hours) and it’s still standing great 2 years later!
Hemnes is great!ToveVery happy w the 6 Hemnes products I have bought in the last 2 mths and the ones I’ve had before. I hope the series do not get discontinued. Two things, though: 1) I am still waiting for a white dresser. Waited over 2 mths. I also wish you could have a white dresser w a wooden top. 2) When you have bookshelves w and w/o glassdoors/drawers in red, I wish you would have the TV stand and coffee table in the same color, too. I couldn’t by that color because of it and I really liked that color.
Great Product...Easy to build regardless of previsious reviews.TracyIt's not a 20 minute job, it will take a couple of hours to put together. I wouldn't recommend using any power tools to assemble as I uses a ratchet screwdriver and a small hammer to tap together. Make sure all the dowels used a firmly seated which will ease assembly. Sturdy and excellent craftsmanship. Will keep the HEMNES in mind for future pieces of furniture from Ikea.
Good desk, confusing cabinetHannahI like this desk and fortunately didn't have much trouble assembling it. My only complaint is that the cabinet is unfortunately proportioned; it's super narrow and deep. No ikea storage bins are proportioned appropriately for it so you're bound to end up with some things pushed annoyingly far back. I wish cabinet were just another set of drawers.
Low quality and so hard to build Anonymous reviewerThe first one I got had holes drilled incorrectly and had to be returned. The second one I was able to assemble but took four hours and three trips to the local hardware store for extra parts and tools. Everything that comes with it that uses a screw head got stripped out immediately before I could even get the screw into the pieces. Because of this I had to replace the screws with different screws from the hardware store which worked great but aren’t the right size so now the drawers hardly function. The instructions are incredibly unclear, even for IKEA. Holes were drilled incorrectly on this desk as well but I was able to figure out a workaround. The desktop is completely untreated wood and will require that I put my own finish on it to avoid stains. I could keep going but I’m running out of characters. For $450 and all this time and energy wasted to say I’m disappointed is an understatement. The quality of the hardware is the most abysmal part but there are many many issues.

Must be an engineer to put this togetherJonelDesk quality is okay however putting this thing together is a nightmare if you do not have a PHD in engineering. Between the holes that are too small to fit the screws to the screws being stripped because they can't fit in the holes, to the hinges on the door, they should've paid me to build this horrendous desk. It took me 4 days to build this. Then, when it was FINALLY done, the bottom hinge on the door broke when I opened the cabinet. This thing is a nightmare.
Nice deskEvgenyI think this is a very nice, well made desk. The table top looks expensive and pleasant to touch. My daughter is delighted to have this desk in her room!
Nice desk but design issuesAnonymous reviewerWe put this desk together and when we put the top on it, it didn’t line up with the pin screws and the wooden dowels. Very disappointing design. We had to remove 6 out of the nine pins to get it to line up. I do not think a desk for this price should have had such a design flaw.

Worst IKEA Product Ever DO NOT BUYTyleRecently purchased a dresser and bookcase from this line and was very pleased with the products. The quality and look were above expectations and they were easy to assemble. Unfortunately the same can’t be said for this desk. The assembly is near impossible with the screws.
If I was gambling man, based on other recent reviews and my experience, I would bet there was a manufacturing error and IKEA either doesn’t know about or continued to ship out defective product.
I would avoid this product at all costs for now.
Substandard ScrewsScottI received the desk today and have most of the base put together, but the screws which hold the cabinet drawer rails require a lot of torque. The screw heads stripped quickly...so I have a skeleton of a desk until I can find hardware that actually works. I can get the screws about 3/4 of the way in before the resistance increases too much. Disappointing!

Disappointing FinishRandallDecent quality for the desk design and materials, but the paint finish is disappointing, especially considering past purchases at IKEA. White finish appears thin and has streaks of light blue showing through...typical of all the Hemnes pieces we purchased. Maybe that's the design intent, but the description and our expectation was white.
What I was looking forJoannThis desk is sturdy and beautiful…enough space for both of my screens and it has a nice wood smell for a long time. I did. Need to buy a writing mat as well but I love it.
Perfect for college student!AutumnMy son is graduation high school & my gift to him was an updated bedroom for college & adulthood. It took a while to put together. Super ez with the instructions. Great quality for the price. My son & I love it. And the size is perfect. He loves that the top drawer has the inside smaller sliding drawer. I love that it has a hidden holder for a power strip plug. The 2 tone color is very nice. Totally Recommend!!!
