Avoid - huge pain to installMarcThis fixture represents the old IKEA in the worst way. What should be a simple and straightforward installation is instead a complicated mess requiring multiple trips to the store. The fixture does not come with any mounting hardware or screws. Never mind that every other light fixture comes with a bag of the most commonly needed fasteners. In addition, the mounting plate has tiny slots in it, and if your ceiling box is even slightly less than perfect, there is no way to mount this fixture without some sort of adapter plate. This is a total mess on the part of IKEA and it feels like the old days when every product you bought needed six extra parts in order to get even a basic installation done. FYI, installing in a house that is only six years old. It should not be this difficult and I’m torn between returning this thing or attempting to go to the hardware store again and buy more parts to make it work.1
Clumsy and ugly mounting setupAnonymous reviewerThe mounting plate and bar that comes with this fixture to adapt it to North American ceiling boxes results in an uncharacteristically (for IKEA) unprofessional and unfinished look, with exposed mounting screws and slots. The plate is much bigger than a standard ceiling box, so the plate instead stacks on top of the finished surface of the ceiling, in turn preventing the fixture itself from being flush to the ceiling.
On top of all that, the sweep of the arc covered by the slots doesn't permit installing it on ceiling junction boxes which have the mounting screws set at 45 degrees (which seems to be most of the modern ones), so I had to mark and drill my own holes in it to allow mounting it straight.
I have no idea why they didn't just make the base a big round thing color-matched to the fixture like their pendant lights, rather than leave an unfinished J-box cover.2

Misleading images, incomplete mounting instructionsChadNarrow Dark brown light fixture with totally visible, unable to hide round mounting disc that shows and stands out like a sore thumb. Obviously known by Ikea as they hid this from all of their photos as they obviously felt this was ugly as well.2
Good lighting but visible screwsAaronLight performs as it should but the mounting plate has visible screws. They stand out once the light is mounted as well as the mount screw slots. If it had a cover to hide them it would be a 5 star item.3

Round mounting plate meets rectangle housingAnonymous reviewerAlthough this was one of the easiest lights I've installed, I've got to call into question the decision to use a round mounting plate against the rectangle housing. Not only does the round edges stick out from the case (and it is noticeable), the light does not sit flush against the ceiling because of it. Even though the lights look professional, the application looks amateur.2

HEKTAR Ceiling Light Baseplate StrugglesAnonymousOverall these lights look really great and are excellently priced to match. The one thing I ran into was that for a standard ceiling box with a diagonal screws, the baseplate slots meant to adapt the ceiling box so that it can hold the tracklight did not have slots that carried far enough around to hold the fixture at the correct angle. As a result, I had to measure out and drill additional holes into the baseplate to correctly account for the slots so that the tracklight can actually sit at the correct angle to the ceiling box.3
