Skimpflation is HereGabrielleI repurchased these trivets after having bought them several years ago and loving them. The cork pieces in the older version were much larger, so those trivets held up well. These new trivets are made out of a cheaper material, causing pieces to easily flake off. They were already starting to disintegrate when I unwrapped them from the plastic. Such a bummer.
Keeping counters safe!KerriI love these. Another impulse buy. I'm not sure if these are an upgrade from the previous ones or another option, but they do appear to be a bit better made than the older version and look less like cork and more of a composite. But they are nice and inexpensive enough to have multiple laying around to put hot pots on when you need to.

Good to use as a trivet for hot dishes, but even for cold dishes to protect the table from transfer of cooking oils, moisture, or potential scratches. I don't like dishes clanging on the table either, so I prefer to use these. Ordering another set.

What is cork?
Cork comes from cork oak bark which is carefully cut from the tree’s trunk. It then takes about nine years until the tree forms new bark that can be harvested. Since a cork oak can live to be aged 150-200, each one produces a lot of cork during its lifetime. Cork has several good qualities as a material: it’s lightweight, flexible, waterproof and naturally resists fire. We use it in furniture and accessories.
