Product details
You can just shake off water from a light rain, as the cushion cover is water repellent.
The cushion covers are dope dyed, a process that reduces consumption of water and dyestuff while improving color fastness compared to traditional dyeing techniques.
The seat/back cushion has a longer life, since it can be turned over and used on both sides.
Easy to keep clean since the cushion cover can be removed and washed.

Love the Chair. Hate the cushionsJeromeThe design and frame are great. The cushions...are horrible and basically dissolved and tear apart like cotton candy. Got them delivered. Set them up. Then we had rain for a week. Waited for the sun to dry my patio up and as soon as I went to grab a cushion it started tearing like paper and the padding just completely disintegrated in my hands. And to resell them for $ 190 is wild! I’m having to get cushions elsewhere. If you’re willing to spend the money on the chair and get cushions elsewhere then I’d say go for it.
Inside disintegrates AdventureAs many others have mentioned the inside of these cushions, simply disintegrates making it extremely difficult washing the covers. I used a bunch of duct tape last season but now I’m just wiping the surface because I know that if I try to wash them again, it’ll all be falling apart.
Cushions disintegrate Don't BuyMonikaAs everyone else has said (and on reddit too), the cushions completely fall apart. We tried to take them out so we could really clean the fabric after a move, and the cushions fell apart in my hands. After doing some searching on the internet, it became clear that I'm not the only one with this issue. Was considering spending money on new cushions, but they are half the cost of the chair, and others said they had the same issue. Attempted to contact support, but they essentially told me to pound sand.
Do not buy unless you want to waste thousands of dollars.
Love the chair the cushions are worthless DevynWe loved these chairs until we went to wash the cushions. Opening the covers revealed the inside pads had all but disintegrated. Went ahead and spent the money on a second set of cushions and the fell apart again.
Very Nice and comfortable MasoudIt looks great and is also very comfortable.
Cushion inserts fall apart within a yearProximaThese cushion inserts are terribly made for outdoor furniture and fall apart while getting them out of the cushion covers. I now have 4 unusable chairs because they have no cushions and there's no point in re-purchasing the inserts at this price point.
DO NOT BUY! Don’t get ripped off!!! KyleThe fact they’re still selling these cushions, it’s CRAZY!!! $190 for cushions that will absolutely fall apart?! Stay far far away from this product. I have two chairs sitting on the side of my house with no cushions because they disintegrated after a year. To replace the cushions would be $400. What a joke! They’ve known about this and are still selling this product without addressing any of the issues. The pre scripted response to every bad review is so disingenuous, do better ikea. When your cheap stuff falls apart ok, but these are expensive!!!! You should be ashamed to offer this product at this price.
Defective Product that IKEA does not acknowledgeNilDon’t buy this product. When you unzip the cover to wash it, the interior falls apart. The lining material inside might as well be just toilet paper. Stay away.
No customer support. They know they messed up but don’t want to acknowledge. They should be embarrassed and issue a recall!
Even the rating system of this comment section does not work probably.
Do not buy.KaitlynWe splurged on the Havsten set in 2020. It came with the loveseat, 2 chairs, and a coffee table. We brought it inside to store for winter the first year and the cushions held up, but taking the pieces apart and storing bulky cushions is frustrating and we simply don't have the space for it. Now, 4 years later, the fabric is shredding and the foam is disintegrating. There is no way to remove the covers without destroying the inner cushion. Save your money and buy or build an outdoor set that uses a standard outdoor cushion that is easily and affordably replaceable. It would cost me $600 to replace all of the current cushions and likely face these same issues.
Inserts Disintegrated after a season.CherylI love the look and the comfort of these Havsten chairs, but like others, the inserts disintegrated so there is NO WAY to machine wash the covers as I did after the first season. Spot cleaning only — not machine washable as claimed. Disappointing as the set cost nearly $1000. They still look fabulous for now, but this is a seriously flawed product and ikea should offer free warranty replacement on these.
Cushions for this set are worthlessChristinePurchased this set a few years ago. The second year took the covers off and found the inserts were in bad shape. Washed the outer covers, a couple if which tore, and put them back on. The next year we were too afraid to remove the covers to wash because the inserts were basically trash. We ended up covering the pillows with sheets to we could still sit on them. They are now unusable and we'll have to spend $1000 just to replace the cushions. Based on all these reviews Ikea knows these cushions are a problem yet continues to sell them. They should be ashamed. The cushion are also a non-standard size making it impossible to find a lower cost replacement option. This purchase has tainted my view of purchasing any Ikea product.
Ikea cushion insertsJeanIt's very disappointing that Ikea hasn't upgraded its method of cushion inserts from the flimsy fabric that completely disintegrates after 1 season of use. These shards of paper fabric get everywhere when removed & make it almost impossible to machine wash the covers. Come on, IKEA, you can do better than this for your loyal customers.
Comfy chairAnonymous reviewerRecently purchased a single Havsten chair frame and cushions. Chair frame was easy to assemble and very sturdy. Cushions are comfortable and pretty water resistant
Very expensive Roy$190 is a lotof money for it
Horrible insertsLisamarieI am extremely disappointed with this product. I bought the sofa 3 summers ago. While I love the design, the materials are extremely shoddy, namely the cushion inserts. This sofa was not cheap, and I bought it in the belief that the cushion covers were washable. This is only marginally true. As many other customers have pointed out, when the covers are removed, the inserts completely disintegrate!! In retrospect, this shouldn’t be surprising since they’re basically made of poly stuffing encased in PAPER fabric. I do not leave the sofa outside during winter, so that was not a contributing factor. That the only option for customers is to purchase all new cushions, covers and all, is very poor business on the part of Ikea. In general, I find that IKEA quality standards have steadily declined over recent years. Sure, they’re still cheap, but their products are now essentially disposable and only meant to last for a season. Planned obsolescence much? Shame on you, IKEA!
Poor durability and washability - prone to mold JamieThese are super comfortable when new. Over the last two years we’ve taken care to cover when not in use but these have become moldy and are not washable as directed; shame on IKEA for not offering a more sustainable solution to keep clean or refresh via new covers - why should I have to pay around a thousand dollars to replace?
Cushion inserts quickly disintegrate, sharing my solution.HeatherI'm posting a review in hopes of helping others in the same boat. After a year of occasional use and bringing the cushions inside during inclement weather, I decided to wash the covers. The inserts were falling apart as I removed them. The thin tulle-like inner polyester covers were in shreds. It would have been impossible to put the inserts back into the outer covers in that state.
After researching options, I bought some silk film cushion wrap (widely available online), and wrapped each insert. I then used a vacuum to shrink the cushions and put them back inside the outer covers before they expanded. 2 stars because they've held up well since I did this. The silk film seems to provide a better barrier, but I won't try to remove them again and only wash the covers by hand now.
These should not be advertised as machine washable and/or Ikea should use more durable inner covers for the foam.
Disintegrating even though protected. AnonymousHave had this set about 3 years. We have always covered at the end of each day to protect. After the first season, I took off covers to wash and the inserts were fragile. The second they were ripped and this year they are shredded and I can’t even remover the cover to clean without the cushion completely falling apart. We have bought a lot ok ikea over the years and are meticulous abt care. While this sofa is gorgeous and modern, it’s unacceptable how poor the quality is considering its price tag. Love the look but you are literally throwing money down the e drain, even if you cover it every day and night until you sit on it. We live in a mellow climate with no freezing or hot temps. 50-70° is the standard year round. Now the cushions are $190 each to replace, which is pretty ridiculous considering we need five sets. Super let down by your shotty havsten production ikea.
Horrible OrenAfter less than a year it ripped when I sat on it, Interior disintegrated, collects mold easily and not washable. Super expensive to replace! I need 5 sets which is almost $1000 for just cushions!
Insert DisintegratedBrittneyThese look great on the outside and are pretty sturdy, but the cushions disintegrated on the inside like other reviewers experienced... Can no longer wash and therefore couldn't use after about a year or so of barely being used.
