Havsta door hinges horribly difficult to installRobinI bought this unit as well as the one with solid doors and the open bookcase, all with bases. I have put together many pieces of Ikea furniture that I have bought for my home and also for a number of different emlpoyers-nothing has been as difficult as attaching these doors!! The hinges are really, really, really difficult to attach. OMG, I was literally crying by the time I finished. I like that the units are solid wood and they look nice but the doors are not perfectly aligned because of the darn screws on the hinges. I made sure to level the units with a level so that is not the cause of the problem - the hinges just suck. Also, why not supply screw hole covers? Lastly, like I said in a separate review about the matching open shelf bookcase: it WOBBLES because it doesn't have a backing. This was not my usual satisfying Ikea experience - I am so disappointed.2
BeautifulMarjoriePerfect for my home5
Love it.BrittaniI purchased it to add to the base cabinet from the same line. I am using it in my dining area for my special dishes and glasses. I love the height of the set. It is a very nice piece of furniture.5
HavstaVeraVery nice bookcase. Can be used in many different ways. Ellegant. I enjoy it everytime when I pass it.5
Hinge SucksRyanPiece looks nice but the hinge design is abysmal. The hinges are nearly impossible to drill in since they’re so tight and the hole is smaller than all get out. I would avoid this piece and encourage the sliding glass doors instead. Disappointed.3
Lovely!SandieA truly lovely piece that I bought 2 of along with the base pieces. Excellent fir displaying collections of tea cups, bone-china or whatnot.5
Nice Office Display CabinetFrankThe cabinet is very sturdy, has a nice look and had a good pricing.5
Nice sturdy productMichaelVery pretty, easy to put together. Looks great as a curio cabinet!5
Worst assembly design everBernardoThe most parts were nice but the hinge in this design is the worst thing i have ever seen. The screw is fixed by the hinge and its almost impossible to have it be flush with the cabinet because of the stupid design. Dont get this cabinet persiod. 2
Very nice GaryWife was wanting a full wall of cabinets in the dining room to hold all the pottery and dishes she has. We installed four of these on top of the standard base units. Has a custom look. We added a floor trim board to hind the adjustment screws My only minor complaint is the screw starting holes are so small on the cabinet side door hinges that it’s a bit of a challenge to hold the door and and start that screw to support the door. I started reaming it out a little with a Phillips screw driver5
HavstaDinaGreat unit but did 4 stars because had to wait for correct door hinges to be sent as received 8 that weren’t correct part. Adjusting hinges was tricky on a few doors, which isn’t IKEAS fault necessarily. The door frames would be better if little stronger wood was used. The instructions would be hard for first time builders and should have written instructions and not just words. 4
Beautiful MichelleEasy to put together and beautiful 5
Good product, tough assemblyJamesI'm very familiar with Ikea assembly, but the door to unit assembly is very difficult to do. Hinge to shelving unit not often aligned correctly. Did five in my home, four were not easy5

Our take on wood

Wood is the material most commonly associated with IKEA furniture, and for good reasons. It’s renewable, recyclable, durable, ages beautifully and it is an important part of our Scandinavian design heritage. At IKEA, we believe that sourced in responsible way, wood is a key change driver for climate mitigation. In 2012, we set a goal that by 2020 our wood would be from more sustainable sources. We are happy to announce that we have reached this goal and today, more than 98% of the wood used for IKEA products is either FSC-certified or recycled.

Forests are critical for life on earth

Forests contribute to maintaining balance in the atmosphere, purify the air that we breathe and are part of the water cycle. They nourish wildlife biodiversity and provide homes for indigenous communities who depend on forests for their livelihoods. 90% of plant and animal species living on the planet need forests to survive. They provide sources of food, fuel, timber and many other ecosystem services that we rely upon. Sourcing approximately 19 million m3 of roundwood per year from some 50 countries, IKEA has a significant impact on the world’s forests and the timber industry and a huge responsibility to positively influence how wood is sourced. Responsible wood sourcing and forest management ensure that the needs of people dependent on forests are met, that businesses can work sustainably, that forest ecosystems are protected and biodiversity is enhanced.

100% wood from more sustainable sources

At IKEA, we work with strict industry standards to promote responsible forestry. We don’t allow any wood in our supply chain from forest areas that are illegal or contain high conservation values or from forest areas with social conflict. Before starting to work with IKEA, suppliers must demonstrate that they meet IKEA critical requirements on wood sourcing. IKEA requires all suppliers to source wood from more sustainable sources (FSC-certified or recycled wood). All suppliers are audited regularly and non-compliant suppliers are required to implement immediate corrective actions. By working together with our suppliers, we are proud to announce that we have reached our more sustainable sources goal, which we set out to achieve by 2020. Today more than 98% of the wood used for IKEA products is either FSC-certified or recycled.

IKEA Forest Positive Agenda for 2030

As pressure on the world’s forests and the surrounding eco-systems increases due to unsustainable agriculture, the expansion of infrastructure and illegal logging, it is time to take an even more holistic approach to protect and support these important resources for generations to come. The IKEA Forest Positive Agenda for 2030 set out to improve forest management, enhance biodiversity, mitigate climate change and support the rights and needs of people who depend on forests across the whole supply chain and drive innovation to use wood in even smarter ways. The agenda focuses on three key areas: • Making responsible forest management the norm across the world. • Halting deforestation and reforesting degraded landscapes. • Driving innovation to use wood in smarter ways by designing all products from the very beginning to be reused, refurbished, remanufactured, and eventually recycled.

We accomplish more by working together

For many years, IKEA has partnered with businesses, governments, social groups and non-governmental organisations to fight forest degradation and deforestation and increase the volume and availability of wood from responsibly managed forests both for our own supply chain and beyond. We are on a journey to improve global forest management and make responsible wood sourcing the industry standard, contributing to building resilient forest landscapes and improve biodiversity.

What is solid wood?

Solid wood is one of our favorite materials and is part of our Scandinavian heritage. It is also a timeless material with many uses. Regardless of the tree species, it is durable, beautiful and renewable. We strive to use this raw material as smartly and efficiently as possible to avoid waste – and we also invest in facilities and logistics so that we can increase the use of recycled wood.

Form design process

Timeless design in solid wood

The HAVSTA series is inspired by traditional Scandinavian furniture based on practicality and simplicity. It’s made from solid pine that shows in its form and surface. Carefully designed details create a handcrafted look, which adds character to the series and makes each piece of furniture unique. And the brushed, matte finish gives a smooth and natural feel. All of this results in graceful pieces of furniture with a sense of timelessness.
