Tempered glass is 4-5 times stronger and more resistant to breaking than regular glass. In case it would break, it shatters into many granular pieces to reduce the risk of injury.

If you are looking for the GLASSVIK white door with frosted glass to finish or match a project/product you started a couple years ago (before all the supply chain shortages), THEN this IS NOT IT. Seems IKEA still sells that original door (802.916.65) in Europe with white frosted glass, but for some reason they only ever brought back this one (with the green tint) to the US. Have been waiting forever to finish our project. So now looking at possibly having to buy the clear glass and apply frosting film. Also NO WORD from IKEA as to whether they'll ever bring the original GLASSVIK option back to the US.2

It’s more green then whiteElenaThese doors aren’t like before where the boarder is more white like it shows. They are more of a green class so they don’t match my other doors . Also the screws to put them on are made of a softer metal so I ran into trouble stripping the screw because the metal shaves every time I turn it.2

Nice enough, but not idealJessicaI got this door because the SINDVIK was out of stock. I didn't realize this door is made of metal (my mistake for not reading the materials list), which doesn't pair as well with the BESTA cabinet - the difference in material makes it feel like the cabinet and doors don't belong together. I bought two doors, but one was missing the handle so I'll have to buy another set, which isn't ideal. Some people may prefer to not use the handles anyway - they can't be secured tightly to the doors so they rattle when you move the door and feel cheap. As a note, the description says "clear glass front" but the glass has a green tint. This isn't a surprise since you can see the tint in the listing photos. All that said, the actual doors are sturdy and good quality, they look nice on their own and from across the room, and they were shipped securely so they were in perfect condition when they arrived.3

Material

What is glass?

Glass is mainly made of sand, soda, and lime melted at a high temperature. Tempering or various additives gives you extra-strong and impact-resistant glass that in some cases can be taken straight from freezer to oven without cracking. A big benefit is how glass can be recycled over and over without the quality deteriorating. Also, a lot less energy is needed to melt recycled glass compared to new raw materials. Our goal is to eventually use only recycled glass in our range.
