too small and arrived damagedShannonThis cover is too small for the supposedly matching Duvholmen cushion. It's possible to get the cushion in, but it looks bad because it's bunched up and lumpy. The cover also arrived with some sort of stain on it that didn't come out after washing. Overall really unhappy with this.1

Cushion coversPaulineLove these cushion covers and they fit perfectly 5
Looks greatKimberlyWe’ve gotten these covers in the past and they’ve lasted for years. They wash and wear well. I will say, the zipper in this newer set is very flimsy. I fear it will split or break over time. 4
Great slipcovers VictoriaI was skeptical about the quality of this product given the price, but the slipcovers are very well made and look very expensive. 5
Way too big/frumpy!! Did the sizing change?? BrittanyI was so disappointed in these covers. We previously had the white/cream color (and love and prefer!) but they kept getting so dirty so I ordered dark grey. Not sure what’s going on with them- but they’re huge and frumpy/wrinkly despite the tag saying they’re the same size as before?? Will be returning and hoping to get to get the cream clean I guess. So disappointed! 1
Waterproof patio coversMichelleEasy to put on the cushion covers. Waterproof. However, after only 1 week on a covered patio, I can see fading so I'm not sure how long they'll last. 3
Fades in the sunLisaThis is the serving set of covers I’ve had to purchase, because the first set (Navy blue) faded rapidly in the sun last year. I chose the cream color because I realize the material isn’t resistant to the effects of the sun.4
FRÖSÖN covers VeraLove, love, love my new covers! 1
Great!BrittanyNice quality for the price!5
More durable than my original Frösön covers from around 2017CassieThese outdoor cushion covers appear more durable than my originals purchased around 2017. I only wish my Duvholmen outdoor cushion inserts from 2017, that are supposed to pair perfectly with the Frösön covers, fit as perfectly as they did for my original ones bought a few years ago. There is alot of empty airspace between the back cushion covers now and the Duvholmen seat cushions had to be wrestled into fitting inside the new covers.3
Cushion coverCindyAlthough the original cover was in good condition, I was grateful to find the new covers(different color) available! Great quality as usual5

FRÖSÖN Cover for back cushion, outdoor beige, 24 3/8x17 3/8 "

Smart technique for cushions in the sun

With FRÖSÖN cushion covers, you make a sustainable choice for your outdoor space ‒ in several ways. The polyester fabric is made from recycled PET bottles, and has been dyed with a technique that is both resource efficient and durable, so that your cushions stay fresh for longer in the sun. After having tested the fabric in the burning Australian sun and in Saudi Arabian sand storms, we know that the cover keeps its great, fresh look, even in the harshest conditions.

When springtime comes and it’s time to put the cushions out for the outdoor furniture, they don’t always look like you remember them. The color may have faded and the fabric might look a little worn after having withstood the sun’s strong UV rays, rain, wind, dust, and dirt. It’s a completely natural process, but that doesn’t mean that we have to accept it. At IKEA, we embrace such everyday challenges and look for new materials, alternative manufacturing methods and more efficient tests. When we set out to make FRÖSÖN cushion covers, we chose to use polyester made from recycled PET bottles and to use a relatively new dyeing technique, which turned out to have more reliable quality and better environmental durability than conventional dyeing.

The color becomes part of the fabric

Anton Löfstedt, who works with textiles at IKEA, explains that the technique is used to dye synthetic fibers such as polyester, acrylic, and nylon. "With this technique, we add the color pigment in the material before the fiber is manufactured. In this way, the pigment becomes part of the fiber and it becomes more colorfast compared with traditional dyeing where the pigment just ends up on the surface of the finished fiber." By dyeing and manufacturing the fiber at the same time, and skipping a step in the production, it’s also more environmentally friendly. The water consumption is about 80% lower compared to traditional dyeing, while the amount of color pigment can be reduced by 20%. These are important figures which show how a new technique can make a big difference. "Today, a growing proportion of all polyester in our range is dyed in this way," says Anton.

Harsh weather tests

To test the durability of the dyed polyester, we put it out in the sun. Over seven months, some cushions were placed on the terrace of our office in Sydney where the sun is strong and the humidity is high. At the same time, we sent a number of cushions to a family in Saudi Arabia where they withstood both sun and sand storms. Catarina Vannfält is a chemical engineer and has studied the results. "Understandably, they were slightly spotted when we got them back, but after one washing, the covers were fresh again and their color looked really good", says Catarina. So with recycled materials and a dyeing technique that consumes less water and color, FRÖSÖN is one step further towards reducing our environmental impact ‒ and the positive effect continues in your own home. "With a better dyeing technique, that slows down the sun’s bleaching effect on the fabric, and a removable cover that you can wash, the cushions keep looking great for a long time.", summarizes Catarina.

What is recycled polyester?

When we create products from recycled polyester, PET bottles, and other sources, they get a new life in products like textiles, storage boxes, kitchen fronts, and even lamps. When using them, you get to enjoy exactly the same quality and function as with virgin polyester products. And naturally, they’re just as clean and safe in every way. And perhaps the very best part – you contribute to using less new raw materials too.
