Cooks PerfectlyLanetteI have always cooked with gas but our new home is all electric and I hate electric stoves. This was a perfect solution! It cooks hotter than gas but without being hot to the touch. Unlike an electric cooktop, it cooks evenly and doesn’t scorch so easily. The downdraft vent is amazing. You can actually watch the smoke being sucked downward. Absolutely LOVE this cooktop!!5
perfect solutionMaryannLike many others, this was a replacement for a Jennair gas cooktop. We had to have our granite trimmed and an electrical upgrade but the rest of the install we did ourselves with only a few minor bumps. Cooktop works great. Downdraft is much better than my old Jennair. Had to get a few new pans which I was glad to do since mine were about 50 years old. We covered one side of the cooktop with a black silicone mat so we can put items on there that might scratch the top and we rarely use more than 2 burners anyway. It gives me more counter space and you barely notice its on there. Couldn't be happier with this cooktop. I appreciate the easy clean up every single time I use it! 5
Works wellJeesonFits in a 30" opening. Downdraft vent works well. 5
Works Well But Beeps Randomly When Turned OffMichaelI like using this cooktop a lot. However, after a few months of use, it started to randomly beep when it is turned off. This is extremely annoying.3
1 Year LaterMelissaReplaced an electric cooktop in our kitchen island. My husband was able to do this just by reading the directions and watching some videos. Get to know the controls and read the instructions! Its a high-tech piece of equipment but once you understand how to use it, its the most amazing appliance. The downdraft is STRONG! The controls are responsive and I'm not sure how people are scratching the surface unless you're being really rough. We have a toddler and we use this stove several times per week. If its making a high pitched sound its usually because there is a tiny bead of water trapped between the pan and the cooktop. So we just take the pan off, dry it better and noise is gone. Occasional magnetic clicks but that's a normal sound especially when using the power boil function. Being able to cook two packages of pasta in 15 minutes from cold water to draining is life changing. 5
Purchased Nov. 2023, Love it. Loved gas until I started using this cooktop. The cooking response is amazing.JosephThe Fornebo cooktop replaced an old electric Jenaire downdraft. To prevent scratches, I bought "5 PACK Heavy Duty Teflon Oven Liners" (5/1000 thick) from Amazon and cut 10-inch circles to place under induction cookware. These thin liners don’t seem to reduce induction efficiency. Boiling 3 cups of 120°F water took under 3 minutes in a MadeIn 2qt stainless clad saucepan, drawing about 3000 watts. A 9-inch saucier heated even faster at 3700 watts. The Fornebo included two metal duct adapters: a 90-degree rectangular(rounded inlet)-to-rectangular adapter and a rectangular(rounded inlet)-to-7-inch-round adapter. Using sheet metal tools and a drill, I combined them to make a 90-degree rectangular(rounded inlet) to-6-inch round adapter, attaching it to the cooktop’s removable plastic adapter. This created a round fitting facing the cabinet floor. Finally, I used a 7-to-6-inch reducer to connect to the original 6-inch aluminum flex duct from the old Jenaire.5
Love It. but . . .KBought the unit a year and a half ago. Love the cooktop space and how burners adjust to pan size. The unit is easy to use but is beginning to exhibit to abnormalities. Can't use more than one burner at a time. Others turn own but do not heat though you can hear the ticking. I use pans designed for induction so stymied. Facing the cooktop only the left side is truly functional. The right side works slowly with boiling taking forever.4
Nice option for downdraft Induction cookingRobinWe have used induction cooking for several years and loved it. Our new home did not have space for a hood above the cooktop, so we searched for one that had a downdraft built in. The Fornebo had the features we were looking for at a price point well below the few other offerings we found. The cooktop works well, we are happy with the purchase. One star removed because the manual is no great, but all in all very happy with the purchase.4
DO NOT BUY the Ikea Fornebo induction cooktop!HowardBought a Fornebo induction cooktop in March, 2024. I asked the store how they handled defective units (occasionally happens). They said that the Fornebo was serviced by Electrolux, and I would have to call them for service. If they determined that the unit could not be serviced, they would arrange for a replacement, but I would have to separately arrange to uninstall the defective unit and install the new unit. I would then file a claim with Electrolux to reimburse the cost of doing that. Ok. Well, the cooktop had defects. Some touch controls weren't working. So I called Electrolux (their number was in the product manual), and was told that they didn't service the unit (!) and that I had to call Ikea service. They said that Ikea would exchange the defective cooktop, but they had no responsibility for de-installing and re-installing. I would be out $300 for a cooktop that was defective out-of-the-box. And if the replacement was defective, I'd be out yet another $300. 1
Fornebo Induction Cooktop with Downdraft VentDeborahAbsolutely the best value for the money. Needed this model for the downdraft vent which works superbly. I was hesitant to switch from gas but with experience w temp settings couldn’t be more pleased. Cleanup alone makes the switch a no-brained. 5
Scratches easily CynthiaI love this new cooktop. It does a great job cooking and vent is awesome. Thought I had been very careful not to drag pans or put things on cooktop. We got a deep scratch after 2 weeks use. There are also slight surface scratches all over around pan rim if you look close. I checked all my pans and they are smooth. I use the Wiemans cleaner & polish but scratches remain. This is my second glass top. I never had scratches on 20 yr old unit before 3
Enjoying But Not What Expected.CatyWe are trying to figure out why our vent does not work. We have had it and using the cooktop for about two months, but the vent keeps showing a D1 error. When I called and asked about it, they sent me to Electrolux, who was of no help. I need some answers from someone. Ikea was supposed to call me back but I am still waiting a month later. There Is a chance I might be returning and getting a new one.
The cooktop works amazingly, but the whole reason we got it was for the built-in vent, which is disappointing for that not to work. 2
Fornebo Follow-upHowardThis follows-up on my December 2023 “hoping for the best” review. The replacement arrived in good shape, and the Fornebo is proving to be excellent. As other reviewers note it will boil water so quickly that it makes an impressive demonstration, but also as reviewers note, it has a personality that takes getting used to. The comments about the controls, for example, are spot on – mastering them takes work and occasionally an error code will appear, but when you get it right the degree of nearly instant temperature control it permits is quite amazing. It also produces a light buzz or hum when heating (my understanding is this can vary by type of pot/pan) but it’s not bothersome and is an artifact of the way induction heating works. The downdraft feature works great, and it’s nice to have a variable speed control. Overall, I’m quite pleased and really hope the cooktop holds up for the long term.5
Great applianceGeorgeIt boils very fast and is a much better unit than our old Jenn-Air downdraft. We are finding that induction is far better than an electric range. It is faster to boil than gas and holds the temp better with more fine tuning at the lower levels. I also found the brandname version of this cooktop and it list for $5,000. I did the installation myself and it was very easy to hook up. I suggest getting a flexible exhaust tube/pipe for the downdraft. It make the installation much easier. Great buy!5
Had for 6 mo works great no issuesRakesh6 mo no problem
I am using back burners more to keep it away from body, and a silicone fiberglass pad to avoid scratching it. I bought it as I needed down draft, this is only model in market at 36” downdraft. 5
how to install the vent...JeriI just know I'm going to love my new fornebo - if I can ever get it installed properly. Some guidance on venting please...4
An Update - Still Happy - Stove has a personalityKennethThis is an update to an earlier review, as I like to return to give prospective buyers an idea of what longer-term owner experience is.
We both love cooking on this stove and more and more are enamored with the degree of control we have. The immediacy of response to changes we make to temperature settings and the size of the heat pattern. We definitely enjoy using the 'Bridge' feature to heat large griddles etc...
One thing that is worth understanding is that the controls are somewhat of a learning curve. The touch aspect seems to like a combination of pressure and dwell that takes a bit of practice. Additionally they can be driven into an error state by spills and wiping with wet cloths or wet/metallic objects passing over them. They can also fail to respond when wet. It takes some getting used to, but we have never been unable to stop something bad from happening. It is worth reporting though, be aware that you will encounter situations that take some practiced touch adeptness.5
Optimistic and hoping for the bestHowardIn an inauspicious start, the first one arrived cracked and must be replaced. I saw the unit today and, from outward appearance, it seems nice. I did extensive research on the unit, as I wanted induction with integrated downdraft, of which there are very few and are quite pricey (Fisher & Paykel, Bertazzoni). This appears to be a repackaged Elica unit that I'm thinking will be very satisfactory. As to the category ratings below, some I've had to fill out now with temporary values until we get a replaced unit that's operational.4
This cooktop offers surprising performance and valueKennethWe needed to replace a broken cooktop and we wanted to try induction.
The price was right, we needed to act quickly and figured we would trust Ikea to offer a product of adequate quality.
It is astounding. The elements really do adapt to most pan sizes. The distribution of heat is impressive and beats anything I have ever owned; gas or electric. We have a griddle that can span 2 elements. That means less burning and more satisfying frying and sautéing with easier cleanup. Fast heat for boiling and starting to cook. The touch controls make sense though there is a learning curve.
Cleaning is easy. The downdraught exhaust is strong and the grate has a finish that is also easy to wipe clean.
The flush top makes the space convenient to use as a prep area.
I found this easy to install, though the new cooktop did not completely cover that space that the older cooktop had occupied. I easily covered a small gap at the rear with a 1/2" piece of aluminum that I had spray painted black.5
Down draft induction cooktopSandyI just recently had this installed in my countertop and I really like it. The downdraft is quite powerful when on high but adequate even on the lower settings. I cleared out my kitchen of a dust cloud from my unfiltered wet vac. The dust was extracted really fast. I did have to clean the filter afterward, but it showed its power of extraction. The controls took a some getting used to, but I've gotten have gotten the hang of it. I discovered in another post that you can keep the glass from getting scratched by place a piece of parchment paper under your pot or skillet. I am completely satisfied with the purchase, and I would recommend it if you have a way to run the exhaust to the outside. We were not able to install an exhaust hood, and this was the perfect solution. It does show water spots, fingerprints and food spills quite readily so you will have to keep a microfiber towel handy to clean up right away. It is beautiful, sleek and attractive!5
