Faulty design, & terribly brittle particle boardVanessaAfter following instructions the pieces wouldn't fit. It's impossible to lock them together. Watched multiple youtube videos. Doing everything as instructed but the pieces are faulty. Through so many attempts the particleboard is crumbling. Extremely brittle and easily scratched. Taking this to IKEA to return would also be an expensive hassle for us to deal with. Wish we'd read the reviews.1
Comically incomprehensible instructionsEmmaI've put together dozens of IKEA pieces over the years without serious issues, but this one was a mess. Took forever, lots of frustration and trial and error, and the material is also *extremely* easily scratched so when completed, after all that, it just looks like a mess. The best IKEA products are inexpensive but don't look like it; this one looks cheap. I should have listened to the other reviewers!1
Believe other people’s commentsClaudioThis is by far the lowest quality cabinet we have purchased at IKEA. It is very confusing to build and does not represent IKEA quality we were expecting. The doors have a huge gap at the top and no gap at the bottom but There’s no way to fix the issue. The edges started chipping color as we were building. It could have been a perfect piece for the office but we are looking to returning them.2
Easy to build and looks greatCrystalI’m genuinely not really sure why people struggle with building the eket. I followed the instructions exactly and I made it so quickly. Looks great and perfect for my new entertainment center!5
garbage KaraI’ve built many ikea products over my entire life and this one by far is the most difficult and nearly impossible for one person by themselves. 2
Great for the price!PeterAbout 15mins to put together with only a screwdriver. The wrap on the particle board is pretty thin so be careful moving ANYTHING on it. It will scratch easily. The unit perfectly aligned and doors aligned and work great with no adjustment. I did have to sort of flex the back board out of the back side to get the bottom piece in evenly, then flexed the backing into the slitted slot with a flat head. Overall pretty quick build and seems pretty sturdy, but the walnut wrap is pretty thin. 4
Faulty DesignNicoleNot too difficult to assemble after following a you tube video. Very difficult to mount to the wall. I otdered 2 and only kept 1. Also, magnetic plunger for both doors gets stuck. I wouldn’t buy again.2
Cute enough, but NOT EASY TO ASSEMBLE.AmyPut two together. Had to go to reddit for guidance about how to do things in a different order than the supplied instructions. Second unit has major issues with the doors being off. Magnet clicky isn't always working. Nice enough once assembled but JUST CREATE BETTER INSTRUCTIONS and maybe use particle board that's just a tad stronger or metal pieces for the lock-in parts?2
OBSESSEDSummerSuper easy to build and looks incredible 5
Terrible to buildFionaWow. I followed the instructions to a T and this is by far not user friendly. You have to slide a panel in while the back panel is in the way. It literally isn’t possible without shaking the unit around and hoping you can force the last side panel on. I read the reviews and thought “there’s no way it could be that hard, it’s Ikea!”. I was wrong. 1
I have one from a few years ago and it is not like thisLaurenThis is not worth the money. The doors do not align properly and it came covered in marks. I will be returning this.1
terrible assembly and cheap functionality Brighidshould have listened to the reviews but the views of this piece online/on tiktok were tempting - but i regret it. we purchased 3 of these cabinets to use as a media console under our TV, i also went above and beyond as they weren’t able to deliver to us and had a family member living near a far away store that had them in stock deliver them to me, so this stings even more after all that trouble. my boyfriend and i spent a miserable 4-5 hours assembling all three of these and each ended up completely differently… some of the doors are crooked or protruding out, two of them if you even lightly touch it the cabinet doors pop out, two of the wood panels had dents in them not of our doing… the list goes on. i should return them but they’re already assembled, and again they were purchased at a store in Indiana (I’m in Illinois), so i won’t go through the trouble… PLEASE DONT BUY THESE :( 1
WishedEricawished i hired task rabbit.. it was a nightmare trying to put together. ended up returning it because it was too much of a hassle for my liking.3
Beautiful pieceDianeI love the lines and sleekness. I had my handyman assemble it . He said the instructions were a little hard to understand but he had little trouble assembling it. I plan on purchasing several more.5
TERRIBLE ASSEMBLYKiarahI definitely ignored the reviews and quickly regretted it. Returned immediately. 1
Products Like This Shouldn't be SoldJunWe bought 5 sets of it, and none of them close entirely, cracks on top or bottom of the door for everything sets. So don't expect any of them close entirely because they don't. 4 out of 5 sets' back covers are too large, we had to trim them. Overall it's just bad products. It's funny we used to laugh at made in China but when they move productions out of China, products doesn't even work. And in what world they think it's okay to price "Don't Work" product for $80? No wonder why Ikea doesn't allow product photos on review, lol. Here is the link to this product no one should buy: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1zHxRaYJCSZ-ujHxnC-GtTLlijyG3mUt61
Read this before assembly!KaceyI purchased two of these cabinets, despite all of the negative reviews. The first cabinet took multiple tries and a couple of different people to get it together. Even then, the corners of the thin backing piece frayed from the handling and I felt like the corners of the cabinet didn’t quite fit together. I read tons of comments and watched videos before assembling the next one and this is what I learned: 1. Start by attaching the piece with the “1” printed on it to the side pieces first. 2. Align the thin backing piece so that the fold runs parallel to the side pieces. 3. As you attach the 4th piece, align the rubber stoppers on both sides. The backing piece will probably cave in slightly, but I found that it remained in the grooves enough that when the 4th piece was inserted, I could just flip the cabinet up and push the end back in. I’m not even kidding, when I made these changes, i put the second cabinet together in 30 seconds with no issue. Hope this helps!4
Don’t buyAmandaThis line of cabinets is not it! So hard to put together and scratches very easily. We spent a lot on these and already scratched nothing lines up correctly. Super cheaply made. Believe the other reviews. 1
A bit tricky to assemble but be patientAnonymous reviewerI agree with some of the other reviews that putting on that 4th piece of the frame was a real bear. Having a 2nd person would've made a big difference, as that person could've held the sides in place (so the flimsy back panel wouldn't fall out of the grooves) while attaching the 4th piece. But it did eventually work, and once that was done, everything else was a piece of cake. It looks great, and I much prefer the door "hinges" on this thing over the typical IKEA door hinges which are almost impossible to align. In all, only that one part of the assembly was tricky, otherwise it was a straightforward process, and the end product is very attractive. I plan on getting another one.4
DON'T BUYLydia We been working off and on for 3 days trying to put these (2) cabinet together. It was quick and easy in the beginning until it was time to connect the fourth piece on after that everything when downhill plus dealing with the backboard issues.   I been buying from Ikea since 1990 and never been this frustrated for sure a simple thing to put together. Question can I return these cabinets without the box. Awful design Ikea, just AWFUL very disappointed. 1

Accessories for EKET

EKET Cabinet with 2 doors and shelf, dark gray, 27 1/2x13 3/4x27 1/2 "

From grandfather's fishing boxes to playful storage

When product developer Petra Kammari Enarsson was a young student and often moved, she used to furnish her apartments with old fishing boxes given to her by her grandfather who lived on the west coast of Sweden. Years later, when Petra was developing the new EKET storage series, those boxes came to mind. How could she make the series as flexible as the boxes?

New technologies, new hobbies, a new family member ... both small and large changes affect life and people's needs at home, especially when it comes to all the things that we need space for. Petra Kammari Enarsson is a product developer at IKEA and often visits the homes of customers to experience their everyday living and how good storage can make life at home a little easier. She remembers a family in Copenhagen which expanded every other weekend with the daughter from a previous relationship. ”She didn't have her own room, but the family had a solution where she had a loft bed in the living room and her private things were in a chest on the floor”. Petra thinks it's a good example of how more and more people are living in small spaces, and that a large part of everyday living takes places in the living room where we want things to be both practical and stylish.

Flexible furniture for new needs

Another obvious trend around the world is that many people move more often - just as Petra did when she was young. ”The problem is that a lot of storage furniture is so inflexible – upon moving or new needs arising, they can't be adapted. This means storage isn't optimal and it's difficult to keep track of all your things”. These insights inspired Petra and her colleagues to start looking at a more flexible and personal storage solution – something that can easily be updated so that people don't have to buy new furniture as soon as something in life changes. Petra then started to think about those fishing boxes she had when she was young and which were so easy to stack and move as needed. What if you could make a piece of furniture which consists of various smart modules that can be easily moved around, removed and added to?

Building with blocks

Petra and her team started by ordering cardboard boxes in various sizes. They took the boxes to different room environments where they moved them around like building blocks – stacking and combining them in various ways. The team also researched detailed facts about storage: on average, how many magazines do we have at home? What’s the ideal height for people to put down their mobile phones? ”Many of us put keys, telephones or bags in a specific place when we come home. We usually do it automatically, without thinking about it”, says Petra. The height that seems to suit most people is 31½", so a shelf at that height was a given in the mix of shelves, drawers and cabinets in different colors and styles that eventually became the EKET storage series. ”I'm so pleased that we chose to prioritize playfulness and freedom of choice with all the colors and sizes of EKET”, says Petra, who's looking forward to visiting more homes. ”I think that the customers will find lots of exciting combinations that we haven't even thought of!”.

What is constructed board?

We use constructed boards when manufacturing many of our pieces of furniture, such as tables and wardrobes. They are light yet still stable and strong. Each board has a frame made of chipboard, fiberboard or solid wood, while the inside is a honeycomb filling structure made of mostly recycled paper, which is extra durable thanks to its special construction. The board is then covered with a protective paint, foil or veneer depending on the style wanted.
