Reviews

Not perfect, but functionalBeckyI read the terrible reviews after I bought it and was scared to put it together. It took a total of 20 minutes, 1 person. Now that it’s together, the doors aren’t perfectly aligned- but it’s still functional. We have it hanging on our wall- stores quite a lot of toys we want to rotate out for our 3 kids. Good size to store awkward shaped board games too. Overall, 4 stars. I plan to buy another shortly. 4
Easy to assemble and very good.PraveenEasy to assemble and very good.5
Great cabinetPamelaNice cabinet, easy to put together, looks very nice and I love the push to open feature.5
Worst assembly LauraWe’re huge ikea fans. Very experienced in assembling ikea furniture. This was so hard. The plastic screws that have to fit together with the back on are nearly impossible. We had to use a mallet to get the pieces to properly fit together. Ended up returning it. Such a disappointment. 1
DO NOT BUY!!SaundraI have many IKEA cabinets, but this one is going back to request a refund ASAP. Horrible process for putting the unit together - the pegs do NOT slide into the precut particle board correctly then everything is off kilter. The doors do not line up with the magnets therefore do not close properly and the spring mechanism to open the door sticks open or closed contributing the the doors not working. WAY too expensive for lousy quality. Other IKEA cabinets like the Billy use a cam mechanism to assemble which has been a tried and true method for IKEA products for literally decades (my first IKEA purchase was in 1999). Tell the designers for this it is an utter failure.1
Bad quality DO NOT BUYLaurenI am usually the biggest Ikea fan. I have made numerous purchases and have always been pleasantly surprised. Not this time. This product was incredibly difficult to put together and no matter what I do there is about a 1 in gap between the doors. So bad that you can see the shelf and everything inside. I knew the doors would not be flush but this is insane. I had such confidence in Ikea that I purchased 2 and painted them before assembly so I am unable to return and out $200. Never again.1
Terrible terribleYoungAssemble doesn’t make any sense. Im returning1
It doesn't last terrible qualityNicoleI have been an Ikea customer for as long as I can remember and this has to be the most disappointing purchase ever! This broke with less than 3 months of use and they told me I wasn't allowed to return anymore. I bought two and they both had to go to the trash one fell apart when my kids was just opening the door for a snack it's such bad quality1
Love itGurmeet K.Very spacious5
Quality control on this needs to be betterRick H.The hinge holes were miss drilled so one door is crooked and it won't close and latch2
AmazingAleksandraSo modular, not expensive and the doors just pop open with one touch. Kids room is so much roomier now5
The most horrendous assembly design for an Ikea product.Christine M.This product's assembly is hands down the worst I have ever experienced from Ikea. The corners fit together via a plastic post that slots into a groove on the other side, but you need to fit the backing in, which prevents the product from actually fitting together the way it's supposed to during assembly, so you are likely to end up with enormous gaps in at least one corner.1
Stay AwayDustinI have bought these previously in the past and they were fine, however, they were out of stock for a long time and I finally purchased the ones they got in. These are made in Poland and I'm not sure about the other ones but the build quality is so inferior, I cannot recommend. right out the box I noticed things were not lining up properly upon assembly. I don't live near an Ikea but this was so bad I won't buy anything else from here again.1
Quality isn’t the bestBeverlyThis cabinet looks nice but isn’t sturdy. Especially for price tag, not worth the buy.2

This is very much inferiorMoThis is very much inferior when compared to billy, Kallax, or Besta. The assembly, which is supposed to be easier -due to no tools and screws needed- is far more complicated, and you can't adjust the doors, so the outcome is not even doors in their height.1
CabinetBeckyI think this was very poorly engineered. The joints are not what I expected from an IKEA product. I got it together but it was very difficult to get things lined up.2
I love it!YasariI purchased this for my kitchen. To store all my kitchen gadgets and mixing bowls, etc. I needed some type of cabinets that don't have handles or knobs since I have an 18 month and he is getting into everything. This works for me as he cannot get into it. Highly recommend this item.5

From grandfather's fishing boxes to playful storage

When product developer Petra Kammari Enarsson was a young student and often moved, she used to furnish her apartments with old fishing boxes given to her by her grandfather who lived on the west coast of Sweden. Years later, when Petra was developing the new EKET storage series, those boxes came to mind. How could she make the series as flexible as the boxes?

New technologies, new hobbies, a new family member ... both small and large changes affect life and people's needs at home, especially when it comes to all the things that we need space for. Petra Kammari Enarsson is a product developer at IKEA and often visits the homes of customers to experience their everyday living and how good storage can make life at home a little easier. She remembers a family in Copenhagen which expanded every other weekend with the daughter from a previous relationship. ”She didn't have her own room, but the family had a solution where she had a loft bed in the living room and her private things were in a chest on the floor”. Petra thinks it's a good example of how more and more people are living in small spaces, and that a large part of everyday living takes places in the living room where we want things to be both practical and stylish.

Flexible furniture for new needs

Another obvious trend around the world is that many people move more often - just as Petra did when she was young. ”The problem is that a lot of storage furniture is so inflexible – upon moving or new needs arising, they can't be adapted. This means storage isn't optimal and it's difficult to keep track of all your things”. These insights inspired Petra and her colleagues to start looking at a more flexible and personal storage solution – something that can easily be updated so that people don't have to buy new furniture as soon as something in life changes. Petra then started to think about those fishing boxes she had when she was young and which were so easy to stack and move as needed. What if you could make a piece of furniture which consists of various smart modules that can be easily moved around, removed and added to?

Building with blocks

Petra and her team started by ordering cardboard boxes in various sizes. They took the boxes to different room environments where they moved them around like building blocks – stacking and combining them in various ways. The team also researched detailed facts about storage: on average, how many magazines do we have at home? What’s the ideal height for people to put down their mobile phones? ”Many of us put keys, telephones or bags in a specific place when we come home. We usually do it automatically, without thinking about it”, says Petra. The height that seems to suit most people is 31½", so a shelf at that height was a given in the mix of shelves, drawers and cabinets in different colors and styles that eventually became the EKET storage series. ”I'm so pleased that we chose to prioritize playfulness and freedom of choice with all the colors and sizes of EKET”, says Petra, who's looking forward to visiting more homes. ”I think that the customers will find lots of exciting combinations that we haven't even thought of!”.

Material

What is constructed board?

We use constructed boards when manufacturing many of our pieces of furniture, such as tables and wardrobes. They are light yet still stable and strong. Each board has a frame made of chipboard, fiberboard or solid wood, while the inside is a honeycomb filling structure made of mostly recycled paper, which is extra durable thanks to its special construction. The board is then covered with a protective paint, foil or veneer depending on the style wanted.
