Shrinkflation at workKarenI ordered 3 glass bowls to replace the ones that have broken over the years. Full transparency, I bought the original ones in 2018. Picture 1 is my old IKEA glass bowl, weight 75.5 grams. Picture 2 is what I received when I ordered 3 new bowls, weight 48.7 grams. I don't think these will last long and I won't buy them again. If only I could upload photos...oh well...you'll have to take my word for it.3

I have already thrown 2 of the 6 away because not only do they stick together, they get chipped around the edges quite easily. I have never returned much if anything to Ikea over decades, but I would like to get a refund on these. Disappointed.1

Material

What is glass?

Glass is mainly made of sand, soda, and lime melted at a high temperature. Tempering or various additives gives you extra-strong and impact-resistant glass that in some cases can be taken straight from freezer to oven without cracking. A big benefit is how glass can be recycled over and over without the quality deteriorating. Also, a lot less energy is needed to melt recycled glass compared to new raw materials. Our goal is to eventually use only recycled glass in our range.
