Perfect bookcaseJudieI was looking for a bookcase that can be very flexible to meet my needs for all books that come with various sizes. This is the one! I’m so happy with my purchase!5
Garage shoe storageOSCAR O.Easy to assemble and looks nice… I also like that you can change the doors to give it a different more personalized look5
Just what I needed!AshleyI needed some shelving that would allow me to adjust shelves to multiple heights to display lego sets. These worked awesome and were easy to put together!5

Endless PossibilitiesDeniseMajor pluses: visually superb proportions in larger spaces; sleek finish on edges, including on back; solid construction, optimal load-bearing; interior of unit has versatile layout, there are multiple choices for shelf placement, a big plus for this cabinet, compared to other Ikea staples, like Kallax and Eket. Also a plus, are IKEA’s many options for personalizing Besta, making it possible to turn a combo of several cabinets into a wow “statement piece” (though doing so with doors and drawers can end up pricey). Otherwise, comparing the Besta series to other Ikea cabinet systems, there are fewer decorative baskets and boxes sized to fit the cabinets. And for me, and perhaps others, the a sticking point to buying Besta is the cabinet’s bulk. It’s depth and width options make it less versatile practically and visually in smaller spaces, and also, in some architectural variants (like my exposed post and beam home). But you cannot knock IKEA’s Besta for what it delivers: subtle, classic, modern looks, solid construction, versality.5
Good, but not the bestaKEVINThese work well. The hollow components are going to be interesting how long they last. For the money, I hope a long time! The one issue I have with them is the back holes. They are used for mounting the frame to the wall, but if you have several of them stacked and only use the top holes you are left with a... well hole in the cabinet that is seen unless you have a door on it. Something that should have been thought of. My second issue is all the accessory parts that are included. It's great that you can work it this way, or that, but what do you do with all the extras? IKEA should have a way of recycling those parts so they don't become unnecessary landfill.4
I am building a BestaJohnI am building a Besta wall unit from 10 individual frames, and am very happy with the design and construction so far. Supply-chain issues in the winter of 2021-22 are preventing me from completing it, however. I'm trying to be patient.3

Storage solutionCHERYLPurchased several Besta units with high gloss doors for a wall. They were relatively easy to put together- and totally solved our storage issue for food/pantry and serving dishes. Look clean and modern. Really happy with them!5
fits great but scratches easilyNatohyathis fit in the space that is needed and we added it as floating on the wall which was easy to do but it does scratch easily so we made sure it was in a place where kids will not be able to touch it. It came with everything you needed it to secure it to the wall.4

Great Product With a Few GlitchesDianaWe bought multiple pieces for wall storage and display in our den. It turned out really well except for a few glitches. It would have been nice if this last piece accommodated door that opened from long side.4

The Most Flexible FurnitureTarynI love Besta! I have it all over my house in different colors and different uses. My only complaint is about the new door hinges.5

Our take on wood

Wood is the material most commonly associated with IKEA furniture, and for good reasons. It’s renewable, recyclable, durable, ages beautifully and it is an important part of our Scandinavian design heritage. At IKEA, we believe that sourced in responsible way, wood is a key change driver for climate mitigation. In 2012, we set a goal that by 2020 our wood would be from more sustainable sources. We are happy to announce that we have reached this goal and today, more than 98% of the wood used for IKEA products is either FSC-certified or recycled.

Forests are critical for life on earth

Forests contribute to maintaining balance in the atmosphere, purify the air that we breathe and are part of the water cycle. They nourish wildlife biodiversity and provide homes for indigenous communities who depend on forests for their livelihoods. 90% of plant and animal species living on the planet need forests to survive. They provide sources of food, fuel, timber and many other ecosystem services that we rely upon. Sourcing approximately 19 million m3 of roundwood per year from some 50 countries, IKEA has a significant impact on the world’s forests and the timber industry and a huge responsibility to positively influence how wood is sourced. Responsible wood sourcing and forest management ensure that the needs of people dependent on forests are met, that businesses can work sustainably, that forest ecosystems are protected and biodiversity is enhanced.

100% wood from more sustainable sources

At IKEA, we work with strict industry standards to promote responsible forestry. We don’t allow any wood in our supply chain from forest areas that are illegal or contain high conservation values or from forest areas with social conflict. Before starting to work with IKEA, suppliers must demonstrate that they meet IKEA critical requirements on wood sourcing. IKEA requires all suppliers to source wood from more sustainable sources (FSC-certified or recycled wood). All suppliers are audited regularly and non-compliant suppliers are required to implement immediate corrective actions. By working together with our suppliers, we are proud to announce that we have reached our more sustainable sources goal, which we set out to achieve by 2020. Today more than 98% of the wood used for IKEA products is either FSC-certified or recycled.

IKEA Forest Positive Agenda for 2030

As pressure on the world’s forests and the surrounding eco-systems increases due to unsustainable agriculture, the expansion of infrastructure and illegal logging, it is time to take an even more holistic approach to protect and support these important resources for generations to come. The IKEA Forest Positive Agenda for 2030 set out to improve forest management, enhance biodiversity, mitigate climate change and support the rights and needs of people who depend on forests across the whole supply chain and drive innovation to use wood in even smarter ways. The agenda focuses on three key areas: • Making responsible forest management the norm across the world. • Halting deforestation and reforesting degraded landscapes. • Driving innovation to use wood in smarter ways by designing all products from the very beginning to be reused, refurbished, remanufactured, and eventually recycled.

We accomplish more by working together

For many years, IKEA has partnered with businesses, governments, social groups and non-governmental organisations to fight forest degradation and deforestation and increase the volume and availability of wood from responsibly managed forests both for our own supply chain and beyond. We are on a journey to improve global forest management and make responsible wood sourcing the industry standard, contributing to building resilient forest landscapes and improve biodiversity.

What is constructed board?

We use constructed boards when manufacturing many of our pieces of furniture, such as tables and wardrobes. They are light and resource-efficient, yet still stable and strong. Each board has a frame made of chipboard, fiberboard or solid wood, while the inside is a honeycomb filling structure made of mostly recycled paper, which is extra durable thanks to its special construction. The board is then covered with a protective paint, foil or veneer depending on the style wanted.
