Files don't fit as expected. HUGE disappointment. Not for use on carpet!!!HannahWow. I should have read more reviews. I'm so insanely disappointed in this cabinet. I actually bought this plus one of just drawers because they would go nicely together. Got it all together and after realizing my file folders won't fit, read reviews and see they have to go in sideways. What a waste of space!!! This is terrible. And IKEA's answer? You can return unopened packages. Well that doesn't help basically any of us who already assembled the damn thing. This needs a huge disclaimer on the front of the description. Just make it 1 cm wider. For a company that's known for precision, this is a big fail.
Bottom drawer problemsAmandaI have purchased the Alex drawer in the past (slightly different drawer set up), but I wanted the one with the file drawer bottom. Turns out, there is no space between the bottom drawer and the floor. If you put it on carpet, you cant get the bottom drawer open. Others have addressed issues with the bottom drawer and fitting file folders. I didn't even make it that far as the bottom drawer drags on my floor.

Good not GreatElenaThe 8.5”x11” letter size hanging file folders don’t fit front to back in the drawer. They have to be hung side to side. And the poles don’t go in the 2nd hole, they go in the first hole closest to the front of the drawer and the other pole goes in front of where it shows in the instructions. So there’s a lot of wasted space in the back which is unfortunate. Why doesn’t Ikea just make it a tad wide to fit the hanging file folders so it hangs front to back and all of the space in the drawer can be utilized?

Not What I ExpectedFelixI desperately needed a file storage unit. I was disappointed because standard file widths are too wide for the bottom drawer. I could not replace my filing cabinet as a result.
Store display should disclose the nonstandard size of the file drawer. Anonymous reviewerThe first problem was that one of the wooden siderails did not have the needed holes drilled for assembly - so we took a 60 mile (roundtrip) jaunt back to the store for a replacement piece.
The second problem was revealed when I tried to put file folders, then hanging files, in the file drawer that was 1/4 inch too small to receive either. I discovered that I could use the drawer from a side position, but I give up convenience and space in doing so.
Perhaps instead of dissatisfied customers, you could put a notice on this unit informing potential buyers that the file drawer is a nonstandard size and (in the USA, anyway) must be accessed from the side, not the front.
Great value, perfect for my needs.JamesI bought two of these to use with a 47” table top I had from an IKEA Idasen sit stand desk. Extremely happy so far. I put 5 2” box bottom hanging file folders in the bottom drawer to move my Manila folder files into. They fit perfectly and I’m not quite sure why folks have said these drawers don’t work. They work beautifully if you put files in depth-wise, and use the included plastic and metal bar supports for hanging folders.
This is not a file cabinetSheilaI purchased this cabinet specifically to hold files. Unfortunately, it is too narrow and files don’t fit. Also, the bottom drawer drags on the floor when you open it. I live 2 hours from IKEA, so I can’t return it. I guess I learned my lesson to check reviews before buying. Total waste of money.
A little disappointedSandraI'm a big Ikea fan but have 2 issues with this item. The biggest problem is the description says it holds standard letter hanging folders in the file drawer. It does not. It is about 1/4 in. too narrow. I was able to get legal hanging folders to fit in the other directions and just put my letter size documents in those, but that does reduce the number of files that can be stored in the drawer. The other problem is the unit sits flat on the floor so the file drawer drags on my carpet. I am concerned that once the drawers are full, the weight will make it difficult to pull out the file drawer. I plan on adding something to the bottom edges of the unit so the drawer doesn't sit directly on the floor. Other than that, once I get replacement parts for my second unit (there were 2 broken parts) and the separate top (it's out off stock), it should be a nice addition to the other Ikea pieces in the room.
Files+ReneeThis was easy to put together. I was surprised because you don't really get instructions, just pictures. Looks good, much better than the metal one I have. I will be purchasing another one to have enough for all my files

What I found is that you have to use hanging folders and put the file in sideways. This unit is just a couple of cm shy of being able to fit a standard file folder. Very disappointing.
Functionality of the Bottom Drawer YvetteI love this cabinet, however, I am so disappointed that the bottom drawer only holds hanging files that fit the width of the drawer versus the lenth. I expected to hang folders from the front to back versus left to right Being that my office is already set up I will now have to buy another one of these cabinets to store everything I need to match the look.
Alex CabinetDamonI received mines damaged and the only ikea is 60 mins away. I guess that's the price I had to pay for having them shipped to me.
Excellent buyJavierI was looking for something like this for a while. Perfect height to match the leg length that make up the other side of the desk. Easy to assemble and sturdy. Very deep drawers for lots of storage. I just wish they had it in gray.
Questionable designSeyedmohammadThere is no spacer foot at the bottom of the cabinet so the lower drawer rubs against the floor. I would say whoever designed this or approved this should be disqualified.
