Not really a folding chairLindaThe way this chair is engineered makes it very difficult to fold. It's sturdy and comes fully assembled but the construction makes it difficult for most people to get it folded. Of my neighbors, only the 2 engineers could fold it, and only 1 could do it reliably.3
Outdoor chairsDanaI love these chairs! Well made & comfortable. Minimalist that are easily stored. Fabulous price.5
Nice chairCarlA good looking, sturdy chair from resistant acacia wood. The time will show the durability.
the manual should describe how to fold it, the only reason I figured it out is because I investigated it before I unfolded it for the first time.5
Folding Difficulty/SolutionMadisonFor those having difficulty folding the chairs:
From the back of the chair, lift the back end of the seat so the back comes out of the lock cutout in the back legs, then push the seat slightly forward, and then you should be able to push the seat down by pressing on the back end of the seat.
Once I figured this out, they were much easier to fold! Aside from the issues with folding, I love the wood/stain color and they have held up well when there has been sporadic rain before I could move them inside.4
Almost perfect chairMichaelThese are great chairs. They look good, feel good, sturdy, strong, and easy to open; however, they are near impossible to fold up. I believe over time I will develop a hernia trying to fold up these chairs.4
surprisingly comfyOsmanI purchased these with cushions/pads as additional foldaway chairs. Turns out they are surprisingly comfotable to sit (for a simple chair). Feels sturdy, but light so can be easily carried around.5
Ridiculously difficult to foldKatharineThis chair is lightweight, sturdy, good looking, and comfortable. One would think that would render it five stars. But I can only give it two stars because this is the most difficult chair I have ever attempted to fold.
If you look at the directions on the underside of the chair it looks as if it should fold up like any typical metal folding chair. Not so. I had to tip this so the chair back was resting on my foot and jostle the seat. I can't even describe how to replicate it. There's some lip/groove it clicks into which probably makes it more sturdy, but will frustrate beyond belief.
Despite this, I'm keeping all 5 I purchased. They are for occasional use only, got them at a great price, and go perfect with the decor. I'm hoping after a few more uses I'll figure out what trick needs to happen to close this without thinking I'm a weakling and/or ding-a-ling.2
They don't fold. You're not crazy. JosephI have spent, no joke, over an hour trying to get these chairs to fold up. Like others have said, there is a locking mechanism that prevents them from being able to be folded up easily. The instructions on the bottom of the chair are awful and confusing. Chairs shouldn't need a tutorial to be able to fold them. And it's a shame too because the chairs are actually beautiful and very comfortable for a folding chair. I don't want to have to return them. I just want somebody to show me HOW TO FOLD THEM! 4
I've never been so frustrated trying to close a chair!KatharineThis is a very comfortable chair even without the cushion. It feels sturdy and while I'm not near the weight limit at all I am a solid gal. It's very lightweight and you don't have to put it together!
Common sense would dictate you fold this up as you would a metal folding chair, essentially the same design. That's not the case at all. I had to look up a YouTube video and that still wasn't adequate. I can't even describe to you how I got it to finally close because it's so obscure with a tiny slot a latch slides into somehow. I had to turn it over so the back rest is on my foot and shimmy a little bit.
Again, it's so difficult to close I can't understand how more people haven't commented on it. When I was having trouble folding it I came to the comment section hoping somebody had any ideas. A great chair once you figure it out.4
Will Not Fold UpGinnyOnce you get the chair open, good luck trying to get it to fold up. Four adults could not get two of these to fold up. We're not all stupid. After 15 minutes finally got one to fold. I understand how it locks back and down in the notch. But like other recent reviews, extremely difficult or impossible to disengage and fold up. IKEA needs to check the factory wood routing on these because something is not up to spec. May have to totally disassemble and file on the locking notch to get these to fold. Low rating only for the folding issue. Otherwise nice chairs.2
So disappointedSusannaWe bought these folding chairs specifically so that we could fold them when we’re not using them. However, upon opening them, we found they lock into place, but do not fold again without great difficulty and strength.1
Best Chair NormaLove these chairs. 5
Nice chairs! DeborahFolding makes them easy to store, a big plus when a hurricane comes! Comfy and nice to look at. The big question is how they will look a year from now.5
Need better instructions for folding upFranciscoI opened the first of my four chairs and am unable to fold again, once folded down it falls on a notch at the top and am unable to refold. Any help will be appreciated.2
NÄMMARÖ Chair - comfortable and practicalKimiyoThis is a chair for outdoor.
But It means I can use it for inside as well as for outside, which is just my idea, though.
That is one of reasons I bought it.
The color is not as dark as I imagined from the picture on website and it is not.
As soon as I got it by delivery, I have been sitting on it often.
Very comfortable and
according to the description of it,
it sounds to be durable, which is very good.
Because I want to use it for sitting and also
want to use it as a step in order to put things on shelves, etc.
I love it. 5
Simple lovely chair SarahI am pleasantly happy with the chair so far hopping it will hold up as well as the table. Glad that I finally just had it shipped to the house.it was never in stock. No assembly required.5
