IKEA Chest and Dresser Safety Recall

Act now to make sure your home is safe. If you own a chest/ dresser that was included in the June 2016 recall or the KULLEN-3 recall, there are several ways you can participate in these recalls.

Four ways you can participate in this recall:

Return your chest/ dresser to a store

If you do not want to anchor the product to your wall, you can return your chest/ dresser to the store for a refund.

Request pickup/ refund for your chest/ dresser

If you do not want to anchor your chest/ dresser to the wall, and prefer not to return the chest/ dresser to the store yourself, contact us and we will come to your house, pick the chest/ dresser up, and give you a refund free of charge.

If you would like to request a kit to anchor your chest or dresser to the wall, and would like to anchor it yourself, please request a wall anchor kit or reference our wall anchoring guide below.

Is your chest or dresser included in the KULLEN-3 or June 2016 Safety Recall?

The recalled KULLEN 3-drawer chests were manufactured and sold from 2005 through 2019. You can check the product label on the inside of the top or side frame of the unit for the label below to determine if your chest is included in the recall.

IKEA chests and dressers subject to the June 2016 recall were manufactured and sold through June 2016. To determine whether your unit is subject to the recall, please view the full list below.

How do I identify if my IKEA chest or dresser is covered by this recall?

The KULLEN 3-drawer chest recall involves the KULLEN 3-drawer chest. The chest is 28 3/8 inches tall, sold in black-brown or birch colors. The recalled KULLEN 3 chests were manufactured and sold from April 2005 - December 2019. The article numbers for the KULLEN 3-drawer chest are 600-930-58 (birch), 501-637-54 (black-brown), and 803-221-34 (black-brown). A 5-digit supplier number, 4-digit date stamp, IKEA logo, country of origin and “KULLEN” are printed on the underside of the top panel or inside the side panel. If you have any questions about whether your chest or dresser is included in the recall, You can contact IKEA by emailing [email protected] or by calling IKEA Toll-Free at (888) 966 4532.

The June 2016 recall covers all IKEA children’s chests and dressers taller than 23.5 inches and adult chests and dressers taller than 29.5 inches that do not comply with the performance requirements of the US voluntary industry standard (ASTM F2057-014). The recalled chests and dressers were manufactured or sold through June 2016. The recalled chests and dressers include MALM 3-drawer, 4-drawer, 5-drawer and 6-drawer chests and also include, but are not limited to, other models that are listed on the IKEA website at www.IKEA-USA.com/saferhomestogether . Since 1996, IKEA chests and dressers have been labeled to identify IKEA, the model name and the manufacturing date code. Units manufactured before June 2016 have a date code lower than 1622. I have an IKEA chest or dresser identified in this recall. What should I do?

If your chest or dresser is not properly anchored to the wall, please stop using it and place it in an area where it cannot be accessed by children. Next, contact IKEA customer service by emailing [email protected] or calling toll-free at (866) 856-4532 (for KULLEN recall) or (866) 856-4532 (for June 2016 recall). You may choose to receive a refund for your chest or dresser or a free repair kit to anchor your chest or dresser to the wall. To request a free wall-anchoring repair kit online here.
Is it necessary to have IKEA or a handyman attach the chest or dresser to the wall for me?

No, it is not necessary. The free wall anchor repair kit comes with the necessary hardware and clear instructions so that you can properly attach the chest or dresser to the wall yourself. If you need assistance in securing it to the wall, IKEA will provide such assistance (see following FAQ).
I purchased this IKEA chest or dresser before this recall announcement and am unable, unwilling or uncomfortable attaching it to the wall. What should I do?

If your chest or dresser is not properly anchored to the wall, please stop using it and place it in an area where it cannot be accessed by children. Next, contact IKEA customer service by emailing [email protected] or calling toll-free at (866) 856-4532 (for KULLEN recall) or (866) 856-4532 (for June 2016 recall). We will schedule an appointment to come out to your home and attach it to the wall for you at no charge.
I purchased this IKEA chest or dresser before this recall announcement and do not want it in my home any more. What should I do?

If your chest or dresser is not properly anchored to the wall, please stop using it and place it in an area where it cannot be accessed by children. If you do not want the chest or dresser in your home and desire a refund, you should bring it back to your closest IKEA store or contact IKEA by emailing [email protected] or calling toll free at (866) 856-4532 (for KULLEN recall) or (866) 856-4532 (for June 2016 recall) to have IKEA come to your home and remove the chest or dresser free of charge.

For the KULLEN recall, we will provide you a full refund.

For the June 2016 recall, we will provide you with 1) a full refund if the chest or dresser was manufactured between January 1, 2002 and June 28, 2016; 2) a store credit for 50% of the original purchase price if the product was manufactured before January 2002; or 3) a $50 store credit if the date stamp is unidentifiable.
I purchased this IKEA chest or dresser before this recall announcement. I don’t want it in my home and can’t bring it back to the store. What should I do?

If you do not want the chest or dresser in your home and desire a refund, you should contact IKEA by emailing [email protected] or calling toll free at (866) 856-4532 (for KULLEN recall) or (866) 856-4532 (for 2016 recall) to have IKEA come to your home and remove the chest or dresser free of charge.

For the KULLEN recall, we will provide you with a full refund.

For June 2016 recall, we will provide you with 1) a full refund if the chest or dresser was manufactured between January 1, 2002 and June 28, 2016; 2) a store credit for 50% of the original purchase price if the product was manufactured before January 2002; or 3) a $50 store credit if the date stamp is unidentifiable.
I purchased an IKEA chest or dresser from IKEA after this recall announcement. What should I do?

If your chest or dresser is not properly anchored to the wall, please stop using it and place it in an area where it cannot be accessed by children until it is properly anchored to the wall. If you have not already anchored your chest or dresser to the wall with the provided hardware per the assembly instructions, we would like to provide you with a free wall anchor repair kit so that you can do so and help prevent a tip-over incident in your home. Please request a free wall anchor repair kit by visiting your local IKEA US store or by ordering your free repair kit here.
I purchased an IKEA chest or dresser within the scope of the recall from someone other than IKEA after the date of the recall announcement. Can I participate in the recall?

If you purchased the chest or dresser, you may participate in the applicable recall and receive: (a) a free wall anchor repair kit; (b) a one-time free home installation of the kit if you are unable, unwilling or uncomfortable attaching the chest or dresser to the wall yourself; or (c) a refund of your purchase price for the chest or dresser (not the retail price of units sold by IKEA).
I received a label with my wall anchor kit indicating that the product was recalled and directing me to call a toll-free 866 number. What do I do with these?

You should place the label inside the top drawer on the left side to remind you or any future user of the product that it should be anchored to the wall.
Do I need a receipt to participate in the recall?

Typically, a receipt is not required. However, we reserve the right to request a receipt based on the total number of chests and dressers that a customer returns.
Are older IKEA chest or dressers included in the recall?

For KULLEN recall, any KULLEN 3-drawer chest sold in US stores and online between April 2005 to December 2019 is included.

For the June 2016 recall - Yes. We are recalling all chests and dressers we have ever sold in the US that were not compliant with the current ASTM F2057-14 standard. A list of recalled chests and dressers can be found below.

Can I still purchase IKEA chests or dressers?

I no longer have the recalled chest of drawers in my possession. Can I still obtain a refund?

In order to obtain a refund, the recalled product must be returned to IKEA.
