Where Nordic friluftsliv meets Japanese urban-outdoor aesthetics

The SOLUPPGÅNG collection blends the spirit of Nordic friluftsliv – ‘open-air living’ – with the style and sensibility of Japanese urban-outdoor lifestyles. Outdoor functionality meets contemporary city style, resulting in a collection that celebrates connecting with nature – whether through hiking, camping, or simply enjoying fresh air in the park. “I want to inspire people to get out into nature,” says IKEA designer Darja Nordberg. “The design combines Japanese aesthetics, urban-outdoor influences, and timeless functionality. Everything is made from durable, natural materials in calm, earthy tones with a sporty, functional touch.”

Food just tastes better outdoors, doesn’t it?

There’s something special about cooking under open skies – the smell of smoke, the warmth of a shared meal, the sound of laughter. The SOLUPPGÅNG collection has everything you need to make it happen, from durable tableware and handy tea towels to a sturdy cast-iron barbecue.

For big adventures and small escapes

Go a little further. Wander somewhere new. Or simply call a friend and meet at the park. No matter where you choose to spend time outdoors, the SOLUPPGÅNG collection makes it easier – and more enjoyable. A picnic blanket to keep you comfortable, a practical bag for your snacks and essentials, and plenty more thoughtful products designed to help you slow down, unwind, and enjoy the moment.

Wish you were here

It doesn’t take much to enjoy nature – just a comfy spot and good company. The SOLUPPGÅNG collection brings low-effort, high-comfort moments outdoors – where soft cushions, warm blankets and fresh air create that perfect feeling of “let’s stay here forever.”

It looks simple – but there’s a lot of thinking woven in

“We experimented a lot with weaving techniques and fabric structures to find the right look and feel,” says designer Darja Nordberg, who created the textiles for the collection. “Even though the patterns are simple, there’s a lot of craftsmanship behind them.” “Material quality was important for the collection,” says designer Ola Wihlborg. “Bamboo is a hardwood that resists moisture and lasts long without bending or scratching easily. We also used metal with enamel coating for its durability so these items can be used for a long time.”

Into the not-so-wild

Create that cosy, home-like feeling outdoors with the SOLUPPGÅNG collection. And when it’s time to head back, these items fit right in at home too. “When I was designing the products, it was important to me that they’re not only for the outdoors, but can also be used at home,” says designer Ola Wihlborg. “That way, you don’t have to store them away – they simply become part of your everyday life.”
