The IKEA MALM computer desk itself is great, but unfortunately, the delivery decided to add some unwanted “customization” — a 1 cm hole/scratch on the wooden top.
The package also had a hole in the same area, and surprise, surprise, the desk underneath was damaged too. What a coincidence! 😐
I’m not sure exactly when it happened, but it clearly seems to have occurred during delivery. It’s frustrating to pay for a brand-new desk and receive it already damaged.
Now I may have to fix it myself with wood glue, white cement, or some other DIY miracle. Apparently, buying IKEA furniture now comes with free furniture repair training! 😂
The desk is excellent, but IKEA really needs to improve packaging and handling. If the box has a hole, the desk probably won’t have an invisible force field protecting it.

Sturdy and big tableAdityaThe table was pretty easy to assemble with the YouTube video, rather than the instruction manual.. Took about an hour to assemble the table..
Great buySakthi BalanIt looks sturdy and it is sturdy. Assembling is not that straight forward you may require some YouTube support for some finer things (Manual is not enough). Some finer things you may have to learn when you assemble it. If you are not that kind you may use some third party professionals help. You can contact Ikea for that. In my case, it took few hours to assemble and when we finished we found out later that we had put the rails for the drawer wrongly. We found out with the help of videos and corrected it. I love the design and the simplicity of this table. Table is long enough to hold two monitors easily. Drawer and the shelf are slightly smaller but I am fine with it. My feeling is, if the table is in one place it will have longer life. Not sure if we can move around that easily this table. But the experience of assembling is great. I really appreciate the thinking and execution of Ikea on preparing the components so that assembling can become comparatively easier for a common man.
Disappointing Durability After Limited UseGiridhar I purchased this IKEA table expecting a solid and reliable piece of furniture, But as the time goes by, I've noticed cracks forming and the paint starting to wear off along the edges.
Quality is worst. Paper foil is in between the mdf like boards. Didn't think of such bad construction of the MALM Desk. PasamBad quality

Average table, top not durableSandeepI purchased in 2022 and the table top started getting cracks due to elbow pressure. I wish the top was made of little hard material. Not sure if i can get the top as a spare part

What is constructed board?
We use constructed boards when manufacturing many of our pieces of furniture, such as tables and wardrobes. They are light yet still stable and strong. Each board has a frame made of chipboard, fibreboard or solid wood, while the inside is a honeycomb filling structure made of mostly recycled paper, which is extra durable thanks to its special construction. The board is then covered with a protective paint, foil or veneer depending on the style wanted.
