What do you need to know before buying cushion covers:

Cushions have a way of changing the whole look and feel of a room. Changing your cushion covers are also an inexpensive way of switching up your interiors. So how do you know you are making the right choice when it comes to your cushion covers?

• While purchasing your cushion covers, make sure that they are slightly smaller than the cushion itself. 
• The print and colour of your cushion covers are just as important as the points mentioned above. They have the capacity to change the entire look and feel of a room. Take in the colours and patterns in the room. Depending on that, you can choose monochrome or printed cushion covers. If you want to add a pop of colour to brighten up a neutral toned room, a bright monochrome cover is just what you need. How to measure the right fit for your cushions:

As mentioned above, cushion covers need to be slightly smaller than the cushion. Most of the time, customers opt for larger covers because they think a tight fitting cover will spoil the shape of the cushion. This is a common misconception. However, choosing slightly smaller cushion covers gives the cushion a nice plump look. This is especially true for cushions that are stuffed with feathers. In general, if your cushion inner measures 45cm x 45cm, the cushion cover should be around 42.5cm x 42.5cm. 

Washing care for your cushion covers

Improper washing can cause damage to the cushion covers. Most covers can be machine washed, but depending on the material of the cover, you may need to hand wash the cover. If you are about to throw your covers into the washing machine, use a cold and delicate cycle. When the water is very hot, it can break down the fibres and damage the fabric of the covers. It can also ruin the prints and cause discolouration of the cushion covers. 

The detergent that you use while washing the covers should be free from dyes and considerably mild. After they are washed, dry them in a shady area. Prolonged exposure to the sun’s rays can cause damage and discolouration to the cushion cover fabric. For those of you who use driers, make sure it is set to the lowest heat setting to avoid damage to the fabric and possible shrinkage of the cushion covers.
