How to take kitchen measurements myself?
Measuring the space for your new kitchen is key. Take your time, be precise, and if possible, measure more than once to be sure everything’s correct.

Here’s what you’ll need to measure to make sure your kitchen planning is accurate:
Room Dimensions: Measure the width, length of each wall, and ceiling height. Mark the location of all electrical, water, gas, and ventilation connections. Note any obstacles like support poles, columns, or fireplaces—measure and mark their exact positions.
Windows: Measure the height and width of each window. Note the distance from the floor to the bottom of the window. Measure the window glazing thickness and the frame dimensions. Make sure to check how much space is needed to open each window fully.
Doors: Record the height and width of each door. Measure the distance from the floor to the bottom of the door. Include door thickness and frame dimensions. Be sure to note how much clearance is needed to open each door completely.
Electrical: Measure the height of each outlet from the floor and the distance from the nearest sidewall. Identify the type of electrical connection (single-phase or three-phase). List the amperage and all appliances that will be plugged in (e.g., oven, cooktop, fridge, dishwasher). Mark the location of light switches.
Ventilation: Measure the diameter of the vent opening and note if it needs to be adapted to fit IKEA’s flexible exhaust pipe. Measure from the floor to the bottom of the vent opening and from the sidewall to where the vent starts.
Water Connections: Measure the distance from sidewalls to the cold and hot water connections. Note the height of the water drain from the floor and its distance from the wall. List any additional connections like for a dishwasher or washing machine.
Gas Connections: Measure the height of the gas connection from the floor and its distance from the sidewall. Note the diameter of the gas pipe and its exact location.
Relocating outlets, plumbing, or other connections: Be sure to clearly mark where the new connections will go.
