Reviews

Worst product everAnonymous reviewerImpossible to build without a ikea support session1
Assembly tips Anonymous reviewerTrick to this assembly is only 1/2 screw all screws in then tighten everything together when fully assembled.if you do this it assembled without any problems . if you fully tighten ever one at start it’s a nightmare trying to get screws in . Very sturdy bed. Ikea instructions and parts should be numbered as this would have made it easier to assemble 5
Nice bed, but awful to build.Anonymous reviewerI bought 2 of these beds and both have screw holes not drilled properly. All are in less important parts, but still quite annoying to see screws are stuck half way through and can't move them in any direction. Now I don't even know how I will disassemble this (if i have to) as some screw heads are completely messed up because of the poor quality screw holes. Also don't start to build it without an electric screwdriver, otherwise your hands will be messed up, there are around 50 hard to screw long screws in this bed and it took around 3-4 hour to build if you are an experienced Ikea furniture builder. On the bright side the bed looks nice and stable. 2
Awful to assembleAnonymous reviewerBed looks great but is a complete nightmare to put up. Despite the instructions being clear as mud two of us managed to get most of the main frame up in about 3 hours. Only to find we couldn’t get a screw in to one of the pre-drilled holes on the top bar….the thread seemed to be knackered. Trip to the Ikea store to pick up a replacement bar. Replaced no problems but a faff nevertheless. There were problems with alignment, the screws don’t go in easily and it’s just a hellish experience start to finish. Wanted to set fire to it by the end. Save yourself the bother and pay for the assembly service1
Ticked all the boxes forAnonymous reviewerTicked all the boxes for a box room solution with platsa kids wardrobes underneath. Happy boy 😄5
Loft bedAnonymous reviewerGreat sturdy bed, my 10 year old. Is very happy5
Never ending nightmareAnonymous reviewerWish I had believed the bad reviews. The experience of putting together this bed is a waking nightmare.I made the mistake of watching someone put together SVARTA on YT and concluded that this would be similar (SVARTA unfortunately doesn't come in white).IT IS NOT SIMILAR. Because of those denim panels (those look durable and fun to clean!) it does not come with nearly as many preassembled parts as SVARTA. Getting replacement screws (bc shop can't replace parts) has been a never ending labour. It is very difficult to show that the screws don't fit when you can't bring the half finished bed along, you'll be gaslighted all day long by young men huffing and puffing as they 'prove' everything fits and your lack of elbow grease and technique, rather than the product, is the issue. Reassuringly I was told that since the bed was a new design they didn't have any spare parts. A red flag I ignored. Don't sell things you can't replace!Have a screw that won't go in OR come out now.The WORST.1
Great all rounderAnonymous reviewerThis bed is sturdy, practical and good value. It'll easily take an adults weight and the height gives a good usable space underneath. My only bug bare is the steps, they are so narrow they hurt even tiny feet and the grip strips are really rough and uncomfortable to stand on.4
Looks goodAnonymous reviewerBought this for our 10 year old he loves it.5
Great solid children's bedAnonymous reviewerSolid structure on this child's bed. Only downside were the instructions and time to build - 4 hours4
Loft bedAnonymous reviewerIt is not quick job but all the parts matching nicely and bed is very solid. My daughter (9) love it.5
Terrible to build and poor qualityAnonymous reviewerTo be blunt this product is abysmal so much so that after it was built it had to be sent back partly assembled as the quality is so bad that the screws once in don't come out. The holes don't line up either and ours came without threads in the holes for several ladder rungs. The instructions are a total mess. Not everything can be conveyed well with simply pictures IKEA how about using some words. Just so yourself a favour and buy a wooden bed instead of this.1
Loft bedAnonymous reviewerBrilliant sturdy loft bed, easy to assemble and perfect size for my son who loves it. Only downside was that I had to buy a new mattress as a standard one is too thick and would have made it unsafe.5

Accessories for VITVAL

VITVAL Loft bed frame, white/light grey, 90x200 cm

More relaxing, less materials

Where do your children spend most of their waking hours at home? Quite likely the answer is in their bed. Because when life for slightly older children today often revolves around phones, tablets and friends, a lot more space than that “hub” isn’t really needed. With VITVAL loft bed and bunk bed, we wanted to make comfortable and cosy beds for all children who prefer hanging out there. But the goal was also to considerably reduce the amount of materials to save on nature's resources.

Metal is a durable and stable material and really suited VITVAL bed frames. The question was just how much we could reduce the amount of the metal used without decreasing stability and safety. Product developer Anna Carme and her colleagues performed detailed calculations and safety tests. "We came a long way", says Anna. "But it was not enough ― we thought the bed frames were still too heavy."

30% less metal

Experimenting with materials led to the team replacing the bed's edges with fabric. This meant that they managed to reduce the amount of metal by almost one third compared to similar beds. "We found a strong polyester material that also gives the bed a nice and cozy feel ― both when the children hang out there with friends and when it’s time to sleep."

Easy to assemble

"The fabric is mounted on the frame", explains Anna. "And to ensure that the assembly is simple for all parents, we invited a number of people to test it out." The tests then led to the team dividing the fabric into sections and making the yellow edge bands more flexible so that they are easier to pull on. "I love playing detective, to look for and investigate what we have for different alternatives", says Anna. "Nothing beats the feeling when you finally find a good solution."

Material

What is steel?

Steel has unique characteristics when it is stretched and shaped since it remains strong. It provides strength to everything from skyscrapers and cars to bed frames and outdoor furniture. The steel industry is moving in the direction of more energy-efficient production and stronger steel qualities. It doesn’t lose any of its properties when recycled and today steel is one of the most recycled materials in the world.

Form design process

More relaxing, less materials

The idea with VITVAL loft bed and bunk bed was to make comfortable and cosy beds for all children who like hanging out with their phones, tablets and friends. But we also wanted to save on nature’s resources and limit the amount of metal in the beds. So how do you achieve two so different goals at the same time? Our solution was to make the bed edges out of a strong polyester fabric that gave the bed a nice and cosy feel ― and we thereby reduced the metal by 30% in each bed.
