Nice looking but so poor design by ikea standardsAnonymous reviewerIt’s a nice looking shelf but: - it is extremely heavy (unnecessarily so for a wall shelf) - it has brackets but they aren’t used for fixing to the wall - it’s all extremely heavy duty but then has the cheap plastic cam locking nuts whilst it’s easy to construct, fitting it to the wall is tough as unnecessarily heavy. - It is restrained by 3 screws which I wasn’t comfortable with so used 8mm coach scre-ws On top of the poor design element, you can’t pick it up anywhere and only order online which takes 4 weeks. In 2020 that’s simply not good enough. Overall, nice looking but has been more effort than its worth.2

Good looks, poor hanging designAnonymous reviewerThe product looks great. But the biggest problem is the weight. It is VERY heavy for a shelf - before you put any products on it. Added to the the pre-drilled 5 mm holes that are meant for mounting which are below the line of the shelf and you have a shelf that you cannot put on the wall. The pre drilled holes are too small to take any sort of suitable fixing. 3 wood screws is not going to hold this overweight beast up. We have block walls and to date have destroyed the wall finish in trying to use bigger hammer in frame fixings and then latterly steel anchor bolts. Even with the steel 6 mm anchor bolts the shelf suffered front droop and i wasn't confident about the security of the shelf. So it was removed after 36 hours and all of the anchor bolts (top quality branded ones) had been destroyed from the weight. It seems pointless in investing in a £40 chemical fixing kit in order to fix a £35 shelf - so i would avoid if i were you as i think you will only get this straight into direct brick wall and even then the mounting holes will need work.1

What is fibreboard?

Fibreboard is a stable and durable material made of leftover wood from the wood industry. A durable outer layer of paint or laminate is added to the board. The difference between various types of fibreboards, such as HDF and MDF, is mainly the thickness, yet also how impact-resistant they are. This determines if we will use them for bed frames, sofa frames, kitchen fronts, wardrobe doors, or something completely different.
