Wood is better than plasticAnonymous reviewerPerfect alternative for a wooden spoon for stirring in a non stick pan. Given the health concerns of scratching a non stick pan coating, a wooden implement is safer than metal. Also prefer wood over plastic as I don't know what's leaching out of plastic when in contact with hot foods and the pan. This wooden item doesn't have any splinters and responds very well to an occasional wipe over with vegetable oil to keep it in tip top condition. I use it to separate pasta, rice and couscous during cooking. Haven't tried measuring an amount of spaghetti yet so can't say whether the measuring hole in the centre gives a good portion size or not.5
