Reviews

Not well constructedAnonymous reviewerThe slats under the bottom bed always slides off, front boart comes off when pulling out, top bed noisy.1
Very pleased Anonymous reviewerI bought this bed for my son’s room. Absolutely delighted with the quality and practicality of the bed. My son loves it and is excited to share the extra bed with his cousin who ll come for a sleep over during Christmas holidays. 5
Constantly collapsingAnonymous reviewerWorst bed ever! The bed slats are constantly collapsing, at least once a week, even in the middle of the night when my son turns over in bed. The slats are nearly 2cm too short for the width of the bed and slide back and forth and I guess when they are all at one side, the other end is too close to the edge of the restraining bar, and the slight bend on the wooden slats causes them to come off the restraining bar and fall through. The 2 silly thin metal cross supports are useless and cannot support the weight of a child and have bent and snapped. The bed needs a middle supporting bar to prevent the slats collapsing. My son now sleeps on the mattress on the floor, until we can afford to buy him another decent bed. I would NOT recommend buying this bed as the slats constantly collapse and its a waste of money. 1
excellent product!Anonymous reviewerThis is just what I wanted to make best use of a guest bedroom which can double up for a resident carer, when needed. It is well designed and uses the available space sensibly. It has now been put to use and declared to be very comfortable and gave a good night's sleep. This was for a middle aged adult. So, this item's design has many virtues and I recommend it.5
Great buy Anonymous reviewerThis bed was a great buy and was easy to put together. 5
NoisyAnonymous reviewerNot very happy with the bed, as my son is moving a lot at night time, I can hear the noise from my room. The metal who is meant to support the bed got broken on a side. Plus the mattress is very thin for it, so every time he gets out of bed is hurting on the frame.2
always collapsingAnonymous reviewerwe are getting problems with the slats falling through, the ribbon got ripped off many slats partly or completely so I repaired that with new staples but unfortunately the L bar that the slats sit on has become bent and the screws aren’t holding it in properly (despite tightening) so it has a tendency for certain slats to fall off. The bed it self always collapsing because of its length and no proper support in the middle..nothing is holding its sides properly to keep still and on place..the support for the wooden top is small thata why as well its collapsing all the time...its so sad that it was collapsing many times and i have to keep on lifting thr mattress to fixed the bed properly1
this bed is abs terribleAnonymous reviewerI got this bed about a year ago and I am very lightweight so it’s not because of me but I can be doing normal things like lying down and watching my computer or even having a rest, and I will always suddenly hear a bang from the bottom of the bed because the planks always decide to move. I get this is supposed to be an accessible bed but if it was wouldn’t it be easier to put together and use? Other beds from IKEA I’ve had in the past have not had issues like this. For example, I have to take the whole mattress out and a few minutes ago I was home alone and 1 plank was cracked the staples had all gone loose and the ribbon was snapped on most I had noticed, and it took me 20 minutes to sort it all out again! I wish the comfort and accessibility from the second bed underneath could help me leave a good review but this is a very expensive bed so I do NOT recommend!!!1
Waste money Anonymous reviewerI bought this bed less than a year ago but at the moment the second bed that is under is broken and can’t open it, we just use it for guests so we didn’t use it a lot, it is disappointing. 2
Trundle bedAnonymous reviewerMost awful bed money can buy, planks move around and go under and have broken the staples end up on under bed so have to check before my child sleeps on it, bought over 1 year + ago problems from the start ikea sent some one out to fix after he left it started all over again with in couple of months , had to hammer planks into the bottom trundle one side can’t do any thing out the rest as it’s a metal rod that the plank sit on, the long metal rod that is suppose to support the whole bed frame is a joke, if u just sit on it it’s like you have broken the whole bed a thundering sound of the planks going under, now having to fork out more money to buy new beds as this was a waste of money ikea have let them selves down on this item, time like these we need every penny but if we end up with disposable items a year on I think we will have to keep on replacing and losing out on income living with tight budgets. 😢1
Weak foundation.Anonymous reviewerBought this 9 months ago for my son, who is only half the max weight load and we already used the recommended mattress but the side board gave way and metal brackets pulled the particles out of particle board causing slats to fall through and break the slats. The only thing that's stopping my son from falling completely through was the pull-out bed. It's now pretty much unusable for a growing boy.2
Nice designAnonymous reviewereasy to assembly5
My 4 year old loves this bedAnonymous reviewerGot this for my 4 year old daughter and she loves it. Great for when she has a friend over for a sleepover too.5
Great for teenagers!Anonymous reviewerGreat for teenagers!5

Excellent small bed for aAnonymous reviewerExcellent small bed for a young child/adult5
Brill product easy to putAnonymous reviewerBrill product easy to put together5
Good idea, but...Anonymous reviewerConvenient for when kids are staying over, however the spare bed requires thinner mattress, not the standard single IKEA one. Also, beware, it's very squicky.3
Excellent. Perfect for Step Children / SleepoversAnonymous reviewerLove this bed. Searched for a while to find the perfect bed. The other beds in Ikea that have a pull out bed underneath you have to remove the mattress for the pull out bed from under the mattress of the main bed and suffering from back problems I couldn't do this. This bed the mattress stays on bottom bed so no need to do that with this one. This bed is so easy to pull out and push back in my 8 year old daughter can do it by herself even on carpet. Can't recommend this bed enough. The draws are excellent and allow storage of up to 3 pillows in each draw. The bed can be pushed in with the duvet on just have to remove the pillows and pop in a draw. We used the other draw for pyjamas. You can even pull the bed all the way out away from the top bed to allow a gap in between them as it is not attached to the top bed in any way. Excellent5
Very creakyAnonymous reviewerBought Slakt with underbed to allow me to co-sleep with youngest child who suffers separation anxiety. Bed is good use of space and stores duvet and pillows adequately. Child seems to love it. Negative is underbed creaks so badly whenever I lay / move on it - it’s so loud that I am scared to change position during the night for fear of waking him. Maybe would be ok for young child to sleep on but definitely doesn’t like an adult’s weight on it.3

SLÄKT Bed frame with underbed and storage, white, 90x200 cm

It takes a lot of work to chill out

Pre-teen kids are probably the busiest people we know. It might not always look like it on the outside, but on the inside everything runs at hyper speed. With all the energy needed for growing, it makes sense that once they're home, a place to relax and recover is pretty important. That’s where the SLÄKT range comes in. To get it right, we had to go back to the start.

We ordered a study that focused on children aged 8-12 from all around the world. From that we tried to make something that fitted in both with what kids want, and what the parents think the kids need as well.

A worldwide study on what kids want

Child and adolescent psychotherapist Dr Barbie Clarke and her research agency Family Kids & Youth carried out the global study. "Early adolescence is an important phase because it's a slow move towards autonomy and independence,” says Barbie. “There's this huge growth happening that requires a lot of energy. It's not a joke that they really can't wake up in the morning!" One of the big findings was that kids wanted a place to relax and retreat, while still being close to their parents (who still are their biggest influence), even if hanging out with friends is a growing focus. "The bedroom also becomes a place for entertaining with friends. The phrase 'chilling out' was something that we heard around the world. 'Oh, I just want to chill out' is a key desire".

Furniture made to be spontaneous

Building on the research, the work began. We designed SLÄKT to be super modular and adaptable, as well as easy to move around if say a bunch of friends come over. After we tested everything for safety we asked children for their feedback. Then we changed certain designs to be even easier to use and relax with. The kids favorite: a fold out mattress that can be stored under the bed and brought out whenever it’s chill out time. Kids seem to just sort of fall on it. No communication, just 'aaah!'.

What is constructed board?

We use constructed boards when manufacturing many of our pieces of furniture, such as tables and wardrobes. They are light yet still stable and strong. Each board has a frame made of chipboard, fibreboard or solid wood, while the inside is a honeycomb filling structure made of mostly recycled paper, which is extra durable thanks to its special construction. The board is then covered with a protective paint, foil or veneer depending on the style wanted.

Created together with children

Children are the most important people in the world and we’re curious to hear what they have to say since we create products for them! Therefore, we invite children to creative and playful sessions where they get to participate in our product development. Here they can express themselves freely and draw, show or tell us what is important to them. Their opinions matter and make our products better. After all, they’re the experts!
