Product details

You can add smart functions to SLÄKT bed frame by combining it with other products in the series, such as a storage box, foldable mattress or an underbed.

You don’t need to worry about sharp edges since the corners are rounded.

The curved slats with a springy feel adjust to your body weight and create a supple foundation for the mattress.

The slats are spaced to offer good support for both spring and foam mattresses.

Reviews

Nice idea, keeps falling apartAnonymous reviewerI bought two of these: one for each of my kids, with the storage and pull-out bed for sleepovers. It's a great idea but like many other people, we've found that the slats keep popping out when someone gets on or off the bed. It's infuriating and makes the beds unfit for their intended purpose.2
Disappointed, unuseableAnonymous reviewerJust as others have said, the slats keeps falling off the frame whenever anyone sits on it. My daughter no longer sleeps on it as very dangerous, highly disappointed.1
Slats poorAnonymous reviewerLike many others we've always had terrible problems with the slats, even following the instructions. We have tried to repair many times because we have the underbed and the drawers which are great, so it's a shame to have such constant troubles with the slats falling through even with little one who is light. Its fortunate we have the spare bed underneath otherwise the accidents could be worse when the bed collapses. Would be great if there was an option to replace the slats and slat base as the bed itself is great and perfect storage solution too. Very reluctant to replace the bed frame in case of the same problems which seem to be common with other purchasers which means the rest of the items that are compatible with the bed are wasted too, sadly. Our other bed from ikea is older and much better quality with the drawers, so do expect a little more. 1
Not the best!Anonymous reviewerThis bed frame was only used for a week as the slates kept bending in so was unable to sleep on and be used.1
terribleAnonymous reviewerladder broke within a week, only continued to break more within the next month. completely unuseable1
Gap with Ikea mattress Anonymous reviewerThe bed seems simple and ok but when you use a single ikea mattress which is 190cm long it leaves a 10cm gap in this 200cm long bed. Strange.4
Child bedAnonymous reviewerReally good bed my daughter loves. We have bought it with the second bed option perfect for a friend5
Perfect Anonymous reviewerEasy to build and solid 5
Not too bad Anonymous reviewerIf the bed is not close to the wall. The child will fall down. No security 3
Awful, issues with slatesAnonymous reviewerI normally love IKEA products and find them sturdy and long lasting. This bed is just awful! You can’t even sit on the bed without the slates sliding off of the frame and collapsing. We only have this as a bed in the spare room, yet no one has been able to sleep in it as we are too scared they may hurt themselves when they fall through! Poor design - do not buy1
Really tiresomeAnonymous reviewerBought this in January 2022 (with the three big drawers) but after only 1 year 9 months we are getting problems with the slats falling through, the ribbon got ripped off many slats partly or completely so I repaired that with new staples but unfortunately the L bar that the slats sit on has become bent and the screws aren’t holding it in properly (despite tightening) so it has a tendency for certain slats to fall off 😞. This product might be okay for small children (and the big drawers are great) but for my 16-17 year old it’s disappointing that it probably won’t last much longer.2
Great bedAnonymous reviewerI bought 2 of these beds for my children a few years ago when they were much cheaper. Excellent value and great storage. They are teens now and we never had any issues with the slats or the bed collapsing. We do tighten the screws every so often and check the slats are over the stoppers to keep them in place.5
bought 2 for my kidsAnonymous reviewerbought 2 for my kids and they love it. Really sturdy, only thing is you need another person to help place head and foot boards but apart from that it's really easy too assemble.5
DissapointedAnonymous reviewerReally good storage and idea, but really squeeky and noisy, when turning. Daughter keep bruising her legs on sides when trying to get out, condisering buying another higher mattress as bought one recommended by Ikea. Wouldn't recommend.2
Bed is always collapsingAnonymous reviewerThe bed it self always collapsing because of its length and no proper support in the middle..nothing is holding its sides properly to keep still and on place..the support for the wooden top is small thata why as well its collapsing all the time...its so sad that it was collapsing many times and i have to keep on lifting thr mattress to fixed the bed properly1
StrongAnonymous reviewerLovely strong bed. We had the three storage boxes under which is great as doubles as a bed side table. Perfect for a small bedroom.5
Never had an issueAnonymous reviewerI am using this for my 7-year-old and he is been using this for 5 months. Never had an issue with the slates. People who are complaining about the slates maybe need to check again with the installation guide or ask someone for help. There is a step in the guide where you need to fix the slates on the bed sides with screws.4
Worse bed ever purchasedAnonymous reviewerI've replaced the slates twice and they just don't stay in place, my daughter has fallen through in several occasions. The ribbons that hold the slates togher have come off again, badly designed bed! My child is autistic and the bed has triggered her to have multiple meltdown because the slates don't stay in place and move when she gets in and out of bed.1
Downright dangerousAnonymous reviewerAs others have said the slats slip off the bed frame. At that point there is nothing supporting the mattress and if you are sitting on it you go down to the floor with your legs pointing to the ceiling. It is dangerous.1
Keeps collapsingAnonymous reviewerThe slats keep falling through the frame to the point all the ribbons between the slats have ripped. All fittings are tight, my son only sleeps on it, I don’t understand why it can’t withstand that. Certainly wouldn’t cope with any bouncing or jumping.1

SLÄKT Bed frame with slatted bed base, white, 90x200 cm

It takes a lot of work to chill out

Pre-teen kids are probably the busiest people we know. It might not always look like it on the outside, but on the inside everything runs at hyper speed. With all the energy needed for growing, it makes sense that once they're home, a place to relax and recover is pretty important. That’s where the SLÄKT range comes in. To get it right, we had to go back to the start.

We ordered a study that focused on children aged 8-12 from all around the world. From that we tried to make something that fitted in both with what kids want, and what the parents think the kids need as well.

A worldwide study on what kids want

Child and adolescent psychotherapist Dr Barbie Clarke and her research agency Family Kids & Youth carried out the global study. "Early adolescence is an important phase because it's a slow move towards autonomy and independence,” says Barbie. “There's this huge growth happening that requires a lot of energy. It's not a joke that they really can't wake up in the morning!" One of the big findings was that kids wanted a place to relax and retreat, while still being close to their parents (who still are their biggest influence), even if hanging out with friends is a growing focus. "The bedroom also becomes a place for entertaining with friends. The phrase 'chilling out' was something that we heard around the world. 'Oh, I just want to chill out' is a key desire".

Furniture made to be spontaneous

Building on the research, the work began. We designed SLÄKT to be super modular and adaptable, as well as easy to move around if say a bunch of friends come over. After we tested everything for safety we asked children for their feedback. Then we changed certain designs to be even easier to use and relax with. The kids favorite: a fold out mattress that can be stored under the bed and brought out whenever it’s chill out time. Kids seem to just sort of fall on it. No communication, just 'aaah!'.

What is constructed board?

We use constructed boards when manufacturing many of our pieces of furniture, such as tables and wardrobes. They are light yet still stable and strong. Each board has a frame made of chipboard, fibreboard or solid wood, while the inside is a honeycomb filling structure made of mostly recycled paper, which is extra durable thanks to its special construction. The board is then covered with a protective paint, foil or veneer depending on the style wanted.

Created together with children

Children are the most important people in the world and we’re curious to hear what they have to say since we create products for them! Therefore, we invite children to creative and playful sessions where they get to participate in our product development. Here they can express themselves freely and draw, show or tell us what is important to them. Their opinions matter and make our products better. After all, they’re the experts!
