Simple and effectiveVerified BuyerBought this to replace one that went missing in a house move. The unit was unstable and pretty useless without it. I didn't want to throw away the unit. Couldn't find the correct code to get this via the spare parts service, so had to purchase in store. However, at only £2 it wasn't the biggest outlay!5
I purchased this because theVerified BuyerI purchased this because the original item that came with the Ivar shelf was damaged. I phoning customer services but gave up after 30 mins.1

Perfect strengthener for backs of umitsRichard345This adjustable steel cross brace is ideal for strengthening the backs of IKEA wood units. It keeps the sides together and is extremely easy to fit. For units with back panels (usually a flimsy aspect of IKEA) it helps prevent them from being pushed out. Use as many as are needed according to the size of the unit. They ought to be offered as an optional extra to bring them to the attention of buyers.5
Keeps it standing! Essential...MatthewAnthony90This is vital to stop IVAR from falling over/ wobbling. It's amazing the difference it makes. However, it should be included in the price of the side units. This is essential and without it, extremely dangerous.5
A design marvel!samwise47This is a truly outstanding product which has revolutionised the way I view my furniture! My shelf unit (an old model Sten unit) was so wobbly I was considering getting rid of it; it has deep sentimental value so when I discovered I could add a brace and stop it wobbling I wept tears of happiness! The brace itself is so simple - IKEA have designed a true masterpiece here - slim, lightweight metal spars joined with a clever swivel attachment half way along their length with well-manufactured screws. Fitting, despite the lack of the usual IKEA instruction booklet, was simple enough for me to complete myself without relying on a tradesman, saving me valuable money. A little disappointing that it didn'y come with IKEA's trademark allen key but no one is perfect.5

Material

What is steel?

Steel has unique characteristics when it is stretched and shaped since it remains strong. It provides strength to everything from skyscrapers and cars to bed frames and outdoor furniture. The steel industry is moving in the direction of more energy-efficient production and stronger steel qualities. It doesn’t lose any of its properties when recycled and today steel is one of the most recycled materials in the world.
