Product details

The lamp gives a soft light and creates a warm, cosy atmosphere in your room.

The wall lamp provides a pleasant light both upwards, downwards and between the gaps in the hand-braided sedge.

Each lamp is unique since it is made of sedge with natural colour variations and is hand-braided by skilled craftspeople.

Sedge is a material with natural colour variations which are affected by where and when the plant grows and the prevailing weather conditions when the plant is harvested.

If you want to be able to easily change the brightness according to mood and needs, you can dim the lamp wirelessly if you complete with TRÅDFRI dimmer kit. Sold separately.

Material

What is sedge (or seagrass)?

Sedge (or seagrass) grows naturally in South-East Asian coastal areas. For our products, we mainly use cultivated sedge from field areas that have previously been flooded by the sea, making them unsuitable for rice cultivation. But sedge grows well in salty soils and even helps cleanse them. After harvest, the plant is left to dry in the sun making it a hardwearing fibre ideal for weaving or braiding products with beautiful colour variations, like baskets and mats.

Designer thoughts

"MÅNALG is one of several wall lamps that I’ve designed for IKEA. This time my task was to find out how best to use natural fibres in a lamp to create a decorative shape and a beautiful, atmospheric light. Sedge is a fantastic natural material with a textile feel. I hope that the hand-braided structure with different layers and directions will spread both light and cosiness in your home."
