Malm Chest of draws (3)Anonymous reviewerMy first DIY project and it was a success, instructions were easy to follow, they flowed and the product was easy to construct on my own (I was confused at having extra parts left over, but this is the norm now, instead of having missing parts).
Disappointingly poor drawer functionAnonymous reviewerReplaced a two drawer Malm with this three drawer and I’m really disappointed with the drawers which only open halfway. The original had longer rails which made it easier to load clothing, but the new versions are too short, forcing you to cram in any freshly ironed clothing, making them creased. What a poor design choice - apart from saving Ikea on component costs what on earth was the thinking around that? You have taken a very well designed flagship product and made it worse! Can you please at least provide replacement rails so that the drawers are able to be used properly? Also, what is the thinking behind the massively solid rear panel? Not only does it seem unnecessary, it makes the package weight much less comfortable to handle for no apparent reason?

I teamed it with the Malm 80cm wide 4 drawer chest & a 150cm wide (2x75cm) PAX wardrobe with Mehamn white panel sliding doors & they all match perfectly. Can't beat the value & quality of Ikea furniture. Very pleased with it all.

I was surprised at the weight of the box until I opened it and found a heavyweight back panel which gives this unit great rigidity and ensures solid feel when opening drawers. Loved the little touches like feet pads and draw stops. Loved it so much went back for a second one.

Material
What is particleboard?
Particleboard is made from recycled wood and sawmill leftovers – so wood pieces with the wrong shade, woodchips and sawdust become a resource instead of possibly being discarded. We use boards for things like bookcases, bed frames, sofas and kitchen frames. To protect from wear and moisture, we apply varnish, veneer or foil that adds to the furniture's look.
