Instructions booklet is wrong Anonymous reviewerOn page 8 it clearly shows the panel with the holes goes at the bottom of the drawers, however these holes are needed at the top so they can line up with the top board of the desk. This is a serious mistake to make on your instructions, as you would have to dismantle all the drawers, go against instructions and swap the panels. Which means you now won’t be able to fit your wheels at the bottom! I even returned it thinking I had received the wrong panels, only to build it again and find the same mistake. This was not one misprint, it’s on all the booklets and the instructions online.
Lovely work tableAnonymous reviewerGreat combination for a work desk. Second time purchasing. Previous one is used as a dressing table. Great storage, solidly built. But did mis read the instructions again. You need to put the desk top fitting earlier in the instruction manual as I put the base tops the wrong way round. You’ll understand if you read them. But all in all a great unit and value for money.

Lining up the top harder than it should be.Anonymous reviewerAlex drawers are fiddly, but, if done methodically and carefully, are fine.
Fitting the top is harder than it needs to be. If IKEA added two dowel holes to the Alex drawer unit (already has multiple drilled holes for fitting castors), with matching aligned holes on the table top (already has multiple holes for different leg combinations), table top and Alex could all be aligned more easily.
The solution we used was aligning half of the screw holes in each Alex unit with the top using screwdrivers, fitting two screws, removing the screwdrivers then adding the final screws. All while the desk is upside down.
A couple of dowels and holes in each Alex unit would ease this alignment problem.

Strong piece of furniture
Drawers are a pain!Anonymous reviewerI have bought many furniture bits from ikea from pax wardrobes, kallax shelving systems, trofast shelving, hemnes drawers and dressing table you name it my house is full of ikea furniture I have personally built but this has got to be one of the most irritating furniture I have purchased from ikea. The drawers do not run smoothly and keep getting jammed as the system isnt like your typical old fashioned system. The frames come with ready attached metal sliders and the drawers also come with ready attached sliders. You'd think it should just glide effortlessly together but instead its anything but a smooth ordeal. If you're looking for storage drawers you want to wrestle with on a daily then this is the one to go for. On a plus note very sturdy and huge lots of storage if it were easier to use I would personally recommend to all but the drawers are just not it!

Material
What is constructed board?
We use constructed boards when manufacturing many of our pieces of furniture, such as tables and wardrobes. They are light yet still stable and strong. Each board has a frame made of chipboard, fibreboard or solid wood, while the inside is a honeycomb filling structure made of mostly recycled paper, which is extra durable thanks to its special construction. The board is then covered with a protective paint, foil or veneer depending on the style wanted.
