Reviews

TerribleAnonymous reviewerTerrible, when did Ikea quality slip so badly? This looks like something I'd get from a hardware store and also the process of building it. Difficult to put together, none of the holes align to the legs to put the screws in, also need an electric one, otherwise, you're putting screws in for an hour - all 37 of them, also hammering holes to align correctly. It's a cheap product, so prepare to put the time in.1
I bought it to tidy up my shed and it certainly has done that I will buy another oneAnonymous reviewerShed tidy5
Greenhouse shelvingAnonymous reviewerA great value for money shelving system. Easy to assemble and quick. Has securing holes in the frame to ensure it does not fall. I was looking for shelving in my greenhouse at gardening websites but all were far too expensive, so had a look at the IKEA website and found these.5
Great shelvesAnonymous reviewerGreat storage for garden sheds or workshop. Very strong and easy to assemble5
Assembly is tortureAnonymous reviewerI normally ignore reviews related to assembly because we all have our skills in life but wow. The person that said to use pliers to straighten out the metal and throw out the instructions nailed it! I ended up doing the corners first before moving on to the other side. Also if you still can’t see the other hole lining up, force the opposite screw until you do. You have to basically use the screws to straighten the metal. Exhausting process! 2
Shelves for storage spaceAnonymous reviewerGot these to go in my shed. Easy to assemble and sturdy enough for what I wanted to put on it5
Good valueAnonymous reviewerI was wanting shelving for garden shed but found alternatives to be very dear in comparison. I constructed these single handedly but would recommend using an electric screwdriver for extra purchase to bring the metal sheets in line and use of a hammer to tap the feet into place. When constructed they are sturdy and good value.4
Great value but tricky assemblyAnonymous reviewerGreat little outdoor shelving for a great price. I’m using it with the cover to store my son’s smelly football boots. But assembling it was like an initiative test. Throw away the instructions, use some pliers to bend the front and back shelf sides in more, screw them to the legs first and then the holes will just about line up on the sides. 4
EasyAnonymous reviewerVery easy to make up and strong5
ShelvingAnonymous reviewerI have bought the product before in the larger size and was pleased with them. These along with some more larger shelves are fir storage in the loft. Very pleased with them.5
Value for money greehouse shelving unitAnonymous reviewerIdeal for providing space efficient use of greenhouse when growing lots of seedlings4
Just what I was looking for!Anonymous reviewerPerfect shelving for outdoors to tidy up the clutter of miscellaneous plant pots containing rooted cuttings and divisions. And the three I bought fit the space perfectly.5
Nightmare Assembly Anonymous reviewerNightmare assembly. Screws poor quality and the holes didn't properly align. Feet were particularly difficult to put on. But eventually it's up and looks ok and seems stable. Wouldn't buy again.2
Terrible qualityAnonymous reviewerNot a single hole matches up. A 2000 piece lego set is easier to put together than this. Simple design, terrible quality control.1
Fantastic shelving and so versatileAnonymous reviewerBought these to store items while renovating also bought covers for them. Simple and straightforward to assemble. Look good and when finished with them in house they will go in garage. Could also be used outdoors. Very versatile and such good value for money. Have seen cheap plastic ones that cost more than this.5
SturdyAnonymous reviewerThese are sturdier than they look, bought two to create a walk in pantry under the stairs, they assemble really easily and the shelves hold more than I thought they would, I have tinned goods, small bottles of water, energy drinks lined up etc, great for any purpose. 5
Good priceAnonymous reviewerVery nice5
Good valueAnonymous reviewerVery good value, got them for my shed and does the job although some of the holes do not line up and one of them arrived slightly dented. Overall value reasonably priced. 4
Poor build quality and irritating Anonymous reviewerThe whole unit was a hassle to make, with the metal nowhere near most IKEA furniture. The metal is nothing like the power coating suggested in the image, but a awful tin like look. The construction was a nightmare and took over an hour to make. The end result is a wobbly outdated and insecure shelf.1
Outdoor shelvesAnonymous reviewerExcellent perfectly fitted in the space I had5

HYLLIS Shelving unit, in/outdoor, 60x27x74 cm

HYLLIS creates room for life on the balcony

Some of us live smaller than we’d like. It often means a constant hunt for more space. So why not try and use the space we have in smarter ways? This was something our product developers wanted to help out with when they created a small version of HYLLIS – a shelf that fits almost anywhere – and can be used if you want to grow your own herbs and small plants.

Philip Dilé, one of the members in the development team behind HYLLIS, live in an apartment with balcony in southern Sweden. “My balcony is filled with stuff. I’d like to use it for something other than storage, and I think many of our customers feel the same way.”

Cover from the elements

To shield our balconies from weather, wind and exhaust fumes, it usually isn’t enough with the protection from the neighbour above. That’s why the team decided to create a cover for HYLLIS. They made it transparent and added ventilation holes. It makes it possible to use the cover and the shelf as a greenhouse.

Become a balcony farmer

“I grow herbs myself. It saves money and it’s fun to see life sprout on your own balcony. I think people who live in cities should be able to grow small plants and herbs too, even if they don’t have access to a garden,” says Philip. With HYLLIS shelf and cover they can do it in a small scale and use the balcony for more things than storing – a greener life and a smarter use of space at home.

What is steel?

Steel has unique characteristics when it is stretched and shaped since it remains strong. It provides strength to everything from skyscrapers and cars to bed frames and outdoor furniture. The steel industry is moving in the direction of more energy-efficient production and stronger steel qualities. It doesn’t lose any of its properties when recycled and today steel is one of the most recycled materials in the world.
