It oozed quality, is well made and went together like a dream. The sturdy shelves provide a good depth, to take large and small format books. In all I am very pleased with it . Garbage and dangerousAnonymous reviewerNot even worth 50 quid and far less stable and sturdy than a Billy version. Hopelessly flimsy, the front two legs are the thickest parts of it, the back 'lehs' are each only half that width making it very unstable and essential to fit to wall because it will topple. The middle shelf is structural to hold the paper light assembly together. However all of the other shelves just balance on pins, the front edges using holes that barely line up, when fitted the shelves leave cm gap between the frame on either side. All of the shelves continually fall from these pins even when empty and pose a danger to any adult never mind child. Frightening to think what would happen with a loaded shelf if anyone brushed past it or it just decided to collapse on its own, which it does.

We thought these would look better and last longer but we couldn't have been more wrong. Your customer service response was very disappointing too - would expect you to take more pride in your products. a product lasting less than 2 years especially given your apparent environmental credentials is just not good enough.

Nightmare installation, nice product. Anonymous reviewerI’m handy when it comes to DIY. Nothing much phases me. However, this product tested my patience. The instructions are clear enough, however the backing boards were cut so out of line, that it wouldn’t slot in place. I spent 30 minutes sanding it down so it would eventually fit and hold in place with the help of extra screws. Lastly, the bottom shelf actually made me laugh out loud. Again, cut at an angle meaning we have a gap tapering along one of the shelves. It looks nice, but goodness me what a mission. I agree with others, the production of IKEA furniture has really suffered as of late.

Great shelves.Anonymous reviewerThese shelves are indeed solid pine with the exception of the back panel. I would not have purchased them if made of MDF. The pine shelves are lighter and will be much stronger. They went together pretty easily, but I am very experienced putting together flat pack furniture. What would improve the experience is if the parts were labeled (just a, b, c, etc.) because the most difficult part was determining which parts went where, especially the top and bottom rails. It's hard to differentiate them using just the drawings. The holes were drilled accurately. The leveling feet are nice to have. The only shortcoming in my opinion is the system for attaching these to the wall. There are holes drilled in the top of the unit and an L shaped bracket but using the predrilled holes doesn't take into account where the studs may be in the wall. Using an anchor isn't nearly as sturdy as attaching to the wall framing. I located the studs and ignored the predrilled holes to attach the units to those.

A simple build that I managed on my own and only needed help holding the back panel to screw in place.
Good instructions you’d expect from ikea I watched the video instructions and built along, some pieces look similar so worth taking your time to get it right.
Hemnes bookshelfAnonymous reviewerI was looking for a bookshelf for my living room and Hemnes is perfect. The adjustable feet make it very stable as it stands partly on a slightly raised edge. I did have someone from Task Rabbit put it together as it's quite a large unit and I wasn't sure how easy it would have been to do on my own. It's easy enough to adjust the placement of the shelves to fit different height books etc. Very happy with my purchase and if I had room, I would buy another one!
Poor qualityAnonymous reviewerI am very disappointed with the quality of this bookcase. It didn’t fit together well with an uneven gap between the bottom shelf and the frame. One of the shelf supports snapped when we tried to take it out to put the shelf in a different position. The top of the bookcase is damaged on one corner which we didn’t see until we had assembled it. There are some marks at the top too. We made a mistake with one of the supports but couldn’t take it out to put it right as once the screws are in they are obviously not intended to be reviewed. We were so looking forward to getting this bookcase and putting it alongside our other IKEA furniture but I am so disappointed with the finished product.
