Worst night sleep of my lifeVerified ReviewerThe most uncomfortable bed I’ve ever slept on. Used as emergency sleeping for my myself and my sister and neither of us could walk the next day (we are in our 20s and healthy). It dips in the middle and the mattress is so thin that the under bar dug into me and caused bruises. We have purchased a mattress topper for tonight (costing as much as the bed) and hoping we can walk tomorrow.. please only purchase if you don’t want to have guests staying frequently.1
Love it!Verified ReviewerA bit fiddly to assemble (did it on my own). One bit I really struggled with. Plenty of YouTube videos showing assembly, which helped. It's strong, durable and surprisingly comfortable. The mattress/cushion (a lovely grey) is removable and washable. The frame is robust and cannot be scratched by my cat. Wish I'd bought it ages ago instead of my old sofa (was put off by reviews saying it was uncomfortable - it really isnt!).5
Single most uncomfortable bed I've ever slept onVerified ReviewerBit of a faff to build, and the mattress supplied is too thin to even be considered a mattress. The metal bars push into your spine if you don't lie in one precise position, and I have taken to sleeping on the floor, as I like being able to walk when I wake up. Not very comfy as a settee either. Perhaps alright in a spare room, as temporary emergency seating, or for relations you don't particularly like to sleep on when they stay over.2
What a surprised!Verified ReviewerThe size of the sofa is just perfect for my living room and I cannot afford something expensive. I was very sceptic because it is the cheapest sofa on market and I am very surprised. It looks nice, it is comfortable to seat (I don't think I will use it as a bed but who knows) and my cat loved it straight away and this is the best sign. 2 negative things: It is really firm and the seating place is very wide but you can always put a lot of cushions. It is very difficult to assembly. Very difficult like all Ikea furniture unfortunately.... Apart from that I like it and recommend.5
Great design, compact and functional!Verified ReviewerGreat design, compact and functional!5
Fantastic purchaseVerified ReviewerThis is perfect for the corner in our snug. It is used as a bed about three times a month but used every day as a sofa. To make it more homely and comfy, I layered lots of throws and I use a double duvet as a throw over, it saves storing it away until it’s needed too. On top of this I have lots of cushions which, all combined with the throws, makes it so comfy. When used as a bed, I open out all of the throws as extra layers on the mattress, again, this makes it incredibly comfortable. I highly recommend this product.5

Small sofaVerified ReviewerVery easy to assemble - I done this only by my self. Good quality - two people sleep without any problem. Nothing wrong - happy customer5
Sleep at EaseVerified ReviewerEasy to assembly - and user ready in a short space of time. Surprisingly strong and the colour fits in anywhere being cool and dark5
HAMMARN sofa bedVerified ReviewerThis must be the most uncomfortable sofa I have ever sat on. The seat is so deep you are virtually lying down. The sofa dips in the middle, it's like sitting on a hammock. You would be struggling to fit 2 people on the bed which also dips in the middle. I'm so disappointed. The benefits are that it is strong and well made. It's small, so fits a tiny room and would probably suit a young person1

The speediest way from sofa to bed

Have you ever had one of those evenings where time just seemed to speed up? Somehow the clock wound forward and you've got to make the decision whether to stay or go home. That’s when sleeping arrangements usually are made and the evening is paused to pump up a mattress, or sort out a sofa. This is one of the moments the HAMMARN sofa bed was designed for. It takes 30 seconds (that's if you do it slowly) to go from sofa to bed, is lightweight and light on the wallet too. The secret: simplicity.

Sandra Johansson and Jonas Hultqvist were part of the development team. "A tight target does wonders for creativity," Sandra says. "To get the cost to where we wanted it, we realized we couldn't rely on what we'd done before, or what else was out there." Most things had to be rethought. "We were inspired by old camping beds as they're so economical in materials and need to be easy to move," Jonas says. "So we asked ourselves, could we build a sofa bed with stretch fabric like a camping bed?"

No compromise on comfort

Camping beds are not always very comfortable, though. "What's often a problem when using stretch material," Jonas says, "is that it can bow in the middle and you end up sleeping on each other rather than next to each other." The solution: easily tightened screws that keep the fabric tension at the right level.

A speedy transition

The next challenge was working out a good way to transition between sofa and bed, while keeping costs low. "We designed a mattress that could fold into 3 parts,” Sandra says. “In sofa mode you sit on two parts and have the third as a backrest. Then when you fold the bed out, you can fold the mattress out in the same way." HAMMARN quickly transforms from sofa to bed and weighs only 26 kilos. It seems sometimes simplicity is the best innovator.
