It's possible to plant directly in the pot because it has drain holes in the bottom and a saucer to collect excess water.
The porous terracotta holds excess water, so the plant can draw out moisture when needed.

Apparently pots have been returned to IKEA again. Saucers arrived today, very badly packaged and both broken. I’m fed up with having to phone everyone and spending 20 minutes not to get things sorted. IKEA, this is NOT good enough.
